Jordan: 6-0 in finals
I've never understood this line of thinking. So Lebron has twice the number of finals appearances Jordan did at the same age, but Jordan somehow gets credit for getting knocked out of the playoffs sooner because he never lost when he did make it that far?

The fact that some people can actually do mental gymnastics to disagree with this is mind blowing

I consider his Final's record 3-3, not 3-4.
The loss Lebron had in last year's finals should be obsolete, IMO. You can't pin that loss on him.
I think he wins 2 more before he's done--3 at the most.
But to surpass Mike, he needs to get to at least 7 wins. I don't think it matters how many more times he loses at that point.

Hell. You can't pin the first appearance with those shitty Cavs on him either. LeBron has been a very good player in the Finals during his career, except for that weird year against the Mavs, where he really did crumble.

hat if he wins 4 in a row with Cleveland to get to 6? Does that count or does it specifically need to be two 3 peats to sniff MJs jock?
If he wins 4 in a row with Cleveland, that would be impressive as frick and probably make him GOAT in most peoples minds. That will NEVER happen but it's fun to talk about. I brought up the 2 three-peats because you guys really really need to let what MJ's teams did twice sink in. They won 3 rings twice . One after MJ returned from retirement. Two completely different squads minus Pippen and MJ. 2 three-peats. And honestly people think just because Boston was good during Lebrons early finals runs in the 2000's make the east strong. There were a lot of teams in the east in Jordans 2 runs that were good. Especially the "early" playoff losses that people are bringing up for MJ. The hawks, sixers, Celtics, Knicks, Pistons all had future HOF players on the teams. IMO that is probably more than what the west gauntlet is like right now.

quote:the Eastern conference is very weak and has been for a while...when Jordan played, the East was stronger than the West and it was much harder to make it to the finals.
Jordan: way more exits before the finals but losing prior to the finals is better than losing in the finals. Solid logic

I love the MSB.

i want everyone to know that i consider Michael's record as 8-0. We all know he doesn't lose those years had he never retired.

How many titles would MJ have had he left the Bulls to go join Magic and Kareem in the mid 80s?...Just a thought.

And what are you basing this on?
Win totals? You'll be very disappointed when you check the facts there.

It's a fact that does matter. Why didn't the OP say "after XX years of playing in the NBA?" Because Jordan wins every one of those debates.
The people on both side of this argument try too hard. LBJ is a top 5 player all time and the best player in the last 20 years.

quote:Using seasons played makes absolutely no sense. Age is the numbrr 1 issue that drives retirement and the end of a career. So using that as a checkpoint makes the most sense. Also, using LeBrons seasons at the age of 18-20 against him is nonsense. Those years are development years just like MJs college years were.

Jordan had to deal with Celtics, Pistons, Knicks, Pacers, Cavs...
Name to two or three toughest Eastern Conference teams Lebron has had to get past to get to the finals.
