Bars not informing you there's a minimum until you try to close

That's such a shite practice. I'm surprised so many places get away with it.
When going over my spending this past weekend, I saw that I had been charged the minimum at a bar (which was 3x more than what I had spent) that I didn't even know had one. Luckily it got resolved because they had never told me. But why can't these places be upfront about it?

What's the minimum, like $6? Did you buy a bag of nuts?

The minimum could probably buy you 8 drinks at the store. Maybe I'm getting to be an old grump, but I have no idea why anyone drinks at bars.

Without signs how is that even legal?

I never usually had a problem meeting the minimum, but not telling you at all and just charging it is way worse than telling you after you try to close, which would at least give you the option of drinking more or paying cash.
eta: And a $25 minimum is criminal.

They should have told you the minimum as you were cashing out so you could have atleast bought some shots for you and your boyfriend

It's usually $10 and applies to credit cards. Either pay with cash or order more than 1 beer, or pay the extra to take up there credit charges for the card you swiped

Anyone the blinks an eye at a measley $25 deserves their current poverty.
So no I'm not sorry you're poor actually.

Never been to a bar with a minimum. Sounds more like something a nightclub would do.
