As I was walking out last night I was thinking that I never want LSU to be a national seed again. It's just not the same anymore. There's too much parity and it makes you a bigger target - a challenge that a "lesser" team can use to motivate themselves to achieve - much like LSU beating Florida 3 of 5 at the end of the season.

Well that's just dumb

^^^^THIS^^^^

Very True, I was talking to someone just this pass week about that same subject.

This crowd is not into the game like they were at the Old box. It's not because of the New Box, but it's the fannies in the seats. The people sitting in the grandstand are not the same. I'm not sure on #'s but I feel it's 50% (new fans) with not as much passion.

LSU (Money Grab) has changed the Box.

A lot of the people who used to be in the grandstand are in the outfield. Most Diehard fans were booted out. The same thing has happen in Football. West & East sidelines make up the same type of fan as in the grandstands of Alex Box.

I'm sure another Money Grab is in the works the next year or so. So expect the fans to get diluted more.

So is going the way of College sports. It's over as we knew it.

All I can say is :

They should make a movie about it. When I was a kid my dad and I missed a triple play because I just had to have a burger. I think we were playing Mississippi state. I do miss the old box. But as they say out with the old and in with the new. Here's to next year being like old times. Back on Omaha.

I agree, the six team format was great for the baseball fan. Usually had 3 good teams--could be part of the reason most of us have such good memories of the old BOX. The Skip era at the old box was the birth of LSU baseball

It is my opinion that the old Box was louder because of the configuration of the stadium. The stands were steeper and it was more compact

The fans were literally on top of you when you were on the pitcher's mound. It was awesome

Okay look, I understand your sentiments, because the old Box was supposedly the oldest college-owned baseball park in the South (NCAA Divison I-level, any way). Strangely, they said that they had to tear down all that history to keep up with recruiting even though LSU had just won more NCAA baseball titles recently with that older park than anyone else had done since USC did back in the 1970s. When you think about it, the old Alex Box didn't need a rally possum--every time a train passed by, the crowd suddenly was jolted back awake, and the stadium began to rock 'n roll (literally, from both the intensity of the crowd and the vibrations of the train). The stadium's design allowed fan noise to stay confined in the ballpark, making for a very loud stadium, especially at playoff time.

The new park is nice, but I think the big issue with the new stadium was that it just really didn't come as advertised. To stifle the traditionalists who wanted to keep the old stadium, LSU assured them that the new one would be state-of-the-art, the best in the country with all sorts of top notch amenities, complete with a berm in the outfield. What people actually saw on opening day is that they kept the ugly ad-covered outfield walls, didn't build the berm, put the scoreboard in a bad location, put the stadium too far from the railroad tracks to recreate the rocking train scenario, had a sucky concessions set up, had a sucky parking set up, had a stadium configuration that funneled fan noise away from the field instead of trapping it in (making it more quiet), etc. The day it opened, it was obvious to everyone that though it was nice-looking, it not only was not the best field in the nation, but it wasn't even the best in the SEC West (Arkansas' new stadium was clearly better...now several other SEC schools have new stadiums that are even better than Arky's).

But enough with the complaints. What suggestions do you have to improve the new one? Are the concessions stand issues finally resolved now?

The Look of the stadium was more Bland, with a stucco front , with more of a cutting corners feel. .

Once again LSU put all it's money on the Suites and Grandstand area, the further you get for the grandstand the cheaper everything gets.

It's no contest, Sad , really sad LSU.

No Chairbacks, Went on the cheap for its Valued Fans... But look I wonder if Arkansas went Broke by doing it RIGHT!!

Totally dropped the ball LSU/TAF

Agree on sentiments about atmosphere of Old vs New by those that knew the former first-hand.

And am surprised LSU hasn't implemented next phase enhancements to New Box down the lines and Outfield seating,etc..

I much prefer the overall aesthetics of USCe'e Founder's & Ark's Baum over New Box..and the drawings of MSU's new Dudy shatters the NCAA field by a country mile!

They don't have it yet. DNF in it's present configuration is more like The Redneck Capitol of College Baseball.

It will be years before Dudy Noble Field is expanded to look like this...

...right now, it looks like this...

LSU is too concerned about keeping their attendance streak rolling over doing something such as add a berm and allowing ice chests in that area. The biggest problem is that attendance is reflected more on pre-sold tix than it is actual attendance.

Hopefully improvements are made soon, if not LSU will fall behind and quick. After watching the regionals and super regionals the past two weekends there are already stadiums as nice and fan friendly already as the Box.

add a berm

Personally, as a student who already makes roughly 8-10 games per year, adding a berm would want to make me and my friends go to came exponentially more.

Becomes more of a tailgate atmosphere, not to mention it looks pretty nice as well.

Aside from the obvious shortcomings of the new box, if you are looking to capture the magic and feel of the old it'll never happen. That's just how it is. Some people hate change. Sometimes I'm one of those people.

If you had ever been to Rosenblatt you'd feel the same way about the move to TD Ameritrade. Being "nice" isn't what made Rosenblatt what it was. Same for the old box.

I hate looking over and seeing the gold seats no more than 25% full for games until SEC and postseason starts. The place was packed Saturday and Sunday night but despite only being down 1 Sunday, people were leaving. Hello, last game of the year and we are down by one and you are leaving? It is already 11 p.m. What is another 20 minutes getting home? I personally didn't leave until after the team went back to their lockerroom. I wasn't ready to go home. I wasn't ready for the season to be over. I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

Isn't that just what the modernists were claiming a few short years ago when they were demanding that a new stadium be built? That LSU was going to lose recruits without a new stadium?

Now millions of dollars later the new Box is already in the process of dropping to third or even fourth best stadium in the SEC West.

I remember when our fans used to abuse the other teams outfielders constantly. Doesn't seem to happen as much anymore as far as I can tell. In Saturday's game I tried heckling one of them and everyone around treated me like I was breaking the rules.

Well, baseball is the only sport where everything is supposed to be "old-timey" and "traditional." LSU had the only old, traditional stadium in the conference, decades older than the second oldest SEC stadium...supposedly the oldest college-owned concrete grandstand in the South. Being located several feet away from an antiquated train track that visiting teams used to arrive on actually gave the field a kind of an old-time feel and character that a new ballpark can't recreate.

LSU was worried about losing recruits with the old ballpark though LSU didn't seem to have any trouble drawing recruits good enough to win five national titles only several years before. Maybe one of the things that drew those recruits to LSU was a chance to play at an older traditional ballpark. I mean, the old Box wasn't exactly the Fenway Park or Wrigley Field of college baseball, but it could have been renovated in the manner that Mississippi State is fixing up their old field. You just can't recreate atmosphere once the old place is gone.

Players want to play at places that have the best facilities. LSU was right to built a new park but it could have been done better.

Miss State stadium isn't that old it was built in the late 80's.
