Thanks for clarifying the differences
If most people in NBR are M&M or uninsured.....how will a free standing ER help them?

The obvious question is how many emergencies do the ERs treat a day in EBR Parish?
I believe we have 4 ERS; Lane, BRG Bluebonnet, OLOL and Ochnsners on O'neal. How many do they see a day?
I'm not asking how many patients are in the emergency room at one time, I'm asking how many real emergencies are there a day.
Would the community be best served with satellite clinics like the one the OLOL build near the old EKL designed to handle sick people in a hurry, but not emergency patients?

Giving someone tPA and not immediately transferring them if you're not equipped to handle complications is unreal. Wow.
Free standing ERs are a money grab in Texas, not sure why one was proposed for North BR.

It will in that it will take some from OLOL, but those will mainly be resourced patients. Does North BR have any nice sections or subdivisions? This Champions center, is it a development or just the name of the proposed building?

I absolutely agree. You do realize my point wasn't to make light of that but to actually point out that the increase in time it takes to get to ER's in Baton Rouge has gone up on average 2 minutes not in North Baton Rouge...but in Baton Rouge as a WHOLE? In other words, the stats they were using they were twisting to say was caused by the closures. In reality, those are times from all over the City-Parish to every ER in the Parish open during that time period. They were twisting facts to fit a narrative.
but that increase could be because the North BR people take 10 minutes longer to get to the ER than before and the rest of BR stayed the same.

"Only Medicaid/medicare."
Those are two completely different things, but I am not sure you understand that.

Because obviously they will be 'grabbing' the money from the city at $3 million a year.

The thought being the Ambulance not wanting responsibility for the med. during the hour infusion. This ER is major hospital affiliated though. The other I work is not. tPA is not stocked at this one. We would call 911 and GTFO. CT the head of course so that step would be handled on arrival to ER.

Back in Woody Dumas' day NBR was markedly improved by a bond issue the four laned numerous NBR streets and a very good grid pattern was developed.
Generally speaking you can get around NBR proper much easier than SBR where there is not a good grid pattern.

Because someone wants to grab some money.

Both are looked at the same as far as ER is concerned. I don't know what difference you refer to. One is for elderly (Medicare) the other (Medicaid) being for children, disabled, and poor.
From a private owned free standing they are treated with the same disdain. Can't collect from them. And have no interest in trying until forced.

Medicaid has a very low reimbursement rate, and is difficult to collect from.
Medicare has a much higher reimbursement rate and is far easier to collect from, even than most private insurers.
Not sure where you are getting your information,

If they get the city to pay and are not part of Medicare Medicaid programs??
That's some pimp shite right there. They played it at a master level.

I'm at a tertiary center and our number of tPA transfers have gone way up in the past year or so. Most given at rural-ish EDs where they don't really know what they're doing and the complication rate is much higher than at a proper stroke center. I wish they'd CT and GTFO (even the CT is probably not necessary as we usually repeat it).

Medicare patients are elderly. They don't turnover. They are sick and time consuming. They end up admitted and waiting for beds. And they clog a free standing.
Can't "move the meat"!
Not worth the trouble of becoming Medicare compliant.

Then don't take them and see what Joint Commision says. Not my problem, you do what you want.

There has definitely been a shift to include all stroke patients in the tPA window. Saw a dude last year with facial TINGLING for an hour. Not droop? No deficits. They were considering tPA. Lunacy. He was hypertensive as well with a headache working for days.
This is a dude walking talking and drove himself there? His CT is negative, but for all you know he is getting Bells Palsy? Go from walking to brain bleed or GI bleed.

More of an EMTALA issue. Most free standing can NOT collect from M&M. It is posted all over the lobby. Of course if one walks in you are obligated to stabilize and initiate treatment. But you are gonna be sent out quick and the bill will be offensive.

If the people of NBR want an emergency room they need to pay a special tax only for NBR properties to supplement operating an ER in that area.
To solve representation issues we have in this parish maybe NBR and BR needs to become two different cities with different councils.
Then have a policy jury for the parish to represent all portions of the parish not just certain sections of Baton Rouge.

I wonder if the members of the Blue Ribbon Commission would all sign a sworn affidavit stating they took no financial inducement from Champion, that they swear they will not take any in the future, and will refuse any business dealings directly or through intermediaries?
Hmmm.
Hmmm.
