Aranda will give us instant success.

From a statistical view, the one year Steele was here, we had a drop, a STEEP drop in Secondary success.
2014 we had the best defense in the SEC, above Bama. Enter steele, who dropped our D to low tier shite.
Treon Harris had a field day on us.
Expect a significant boost.
My god, why did Auburn even consider Steele?

It's like when America paid to bring Oswald back from the Soviet Union. It doesn't make sense, it might be a conspiracy, and it will likely mean the end of your head man.

Steele took a secondary filled with players built to play man and tried to run a zone scheme.
Thank God he's gone.

For once I really tried to stay enthusiastic about a coach so I wasn't too hard on Steele, but holy shite were we getting exponentially worse towards the end of the season. The numbers didn't even reflect how absolutely lost our entire secondary was. I was at the bowl game in Houston and our DB's were running around like chickens with their heads cut off on almost every play, our program dodged a HUGE bullet by getting rid of that moron considering the fact that his first season has been, by the numbers, by far his best at every school he's ever worked at

Steele had extraordinary talent and we were pretty mediocre. Aranda was great with 3 stars. This year he has NFL talent all over to work with

I will forever give Steele a slide even though I wasn't a fan because at least he didn't quit in the bowl game when he knew he was leaving, unlike what that POS Chavis did.
That said I'm much more excited to have Aranda now.

He wasn't as bad as people make him out to be. Remember, none of those guys were his recruits.
While pass D went down, we still managed more pressure on the qb. some of it was just giving up big chunks. Not getting dominated start to finish, but a few big plays, at times he had two true frosh playing corner.
Either way it was just a stop gap for Miles to get the guy he wanted.
Our fans are funny. Pellinis ds got freaking torched. Yet people were wanting him to replace Miles. We have fans that actually wanted Pelini as the fricking head coach.

Yea, the amount of experienced, healthy, talented players Steele had access to was pretty low relative to what LSU has had for the last decade+.
That said, I think Steele had a pretty low ceiling and I'm glad he's gone; I just don't think LSU would've had a great D last even if Chavis had been there.

The defense in 2014 had less talent and Chavis had them humming by mid season.
Don't be dumb.
ETA: There's also something to be said about a defense that gets better, as opposed to worse, as the season progresses.

A good friend of mine is a Clemson alumni and warned me about Steele as we were hiring him. He said that he pretty much destroyed Clemson's defense and they were HAPPY when he left. His prediction that Steele would have a short tenure at LSU was correct, and I am very excited to see what Aranda can do with this level of talent. Watching the Wisconsin/USC bowl game last year, I remember saying to myself that if we could get a coach that could inspire our defensive players to play that disciplined and aggressive, we would have a very dangerous defense - well, here we are.

While I agree our defense took a dip last year I still believe that the lack of an offense that could consistently sustain drives would make any defensive coordinator look worse that he actually is.
That being said, I would take Aranda over Steele any day.

I can be a pretty big sunshine pumper but even I melted hard when Steele was hired. Dude was a bad fit in every possible way.

The difference between playing for a NC and a 3-4 loss team this season will hinge on whether we can pass the ball consistently and not be one dimensional. That being said, Aranda is a huge upgrade over Steele.

I remember the days when someone would say the Florida QB had a field day against LSU, it was more like 32-22-1, 464 YDS, 5 TD

what a croc. we got butt stomped at least 3 games. our front 7 couldn't stop any team with a decent running game.
that "best" defense you speak of was a statistical aberration.

Watch the game again and forget the last two drives where Treon was just throwing all over the place. We had so many plays left wide open, it was ridiculous. Up until the last 2 drives, Treon was 15/22 (68%) 239 yards 2 TDs and he just collapsed all on his own.
