Eh, they have a pretty good idea they can sign him or else they're forfeiting that slot amount from their pool. It isn't much, but can end up being the difference in getting the numbers right for one of their top picks.

MLB.com loves showing Cape League highlights for draftees that played there. I wonder if they'll actually broadcast any games at all.

I couldn't tell you the last time we've had one player drafted through 8 rds

My coverage of the draft for the day ends at 5pm. Looks like the 10th round will not be finished by then.

I will be tracking it tomorrow but posting much less. Enjoy your weekend fellas. I hope to have some amateur analysis to offer up on Monday along with the good news of our SR victory.

Well sure but my point is it isn't guaranteed that he's gone whatsoever. Obviously they feel good about it or they wouldn't have pulled the trigger, but guys in this range end up in school often enough for it to be notable.

Crazy what happens when you've got a team this young. I'd also imagine we've got fewer than any regional host or team in the Supers, which can be a testament to the coaching job this year.

What do you consider often and notable?

Am I the only one here scratching his head over the Coastal Carolina SS getting drafted before the 1st team All SEC shortstop gets drafted???

Or, did the 1st team All SEC SS tell the scouts he wants to play another year in college??

Paez had a great summer in the Cape last year, and was named an All Star. Also named to the All-League team at the end of the year. Impressed a lot of scouts there

Gonna be significant roster trimming for next year with 13-14 guys coming in and looking like only a handful leaving

For perspective on the point I was making above, if I'm filtering BA's 2015 database correctly, a total of 6 players in the top 10 rounds didn't sign. And only 2 of those were in rounds 5-10.
