Sabi I thought for she was from Mississippi with Louisiana a close second. We people need our own board. All this trash wouldn't even be found on our Florida board.

You do? Can you explain it to the rest of us?

From the second paragraph of my post:
quote:

She has a problem with the preamble stating "all men are created equal," yet at the time slavery existed here.

I'm not saying that I agree with her, I just understand the argument she is poorly trying to make. She doesn't feel like her people were represented In the preamble, and therefore thinks it is unfair to the demographic she represents to have to learn to recite it.

Of course her opinion is incredibly narrow minded.

I find this bill to be very Nazi Germany-esque

The entire point is laughably uneducated and ignorant of history, but I'll play along,

By that logic, is it OK if only the upperclass white privileged land owning males recite it every day?

Also, is it OK if gay people only learn American history from 2012 onward, black people only learn it from 1965 onward, women still don't get to learn it, but white upperclass males get to fully participate in and appreciate a full education?

Didn't we let them all go? How come we never hear a "thank you" for that?

It certainly gets silly, doesn't it? Why allow the context or the messenger to sully the message?

Louisiana State Rep. Barbara Norton (D) said, "For the Declaration of Independence, only Caucasians [were] free.

Is this something else we have to apologize for?

Do we need to destroy all copies of the Declaration of Independence to atone for something someone did 240 years ago?

She doesn't even know words. A Senator using the word ax instead of ask in a formal setting is embarrassing and disgraceful.

And, much like Jackson's famed councilman, she is the best this community has to offer.

What does that tell you?

Every metropolitan area that has a decent black population has one just like her. She gets reelected every election even though her district has the highest crime, murder rate, unemployment rate. Yet they re elect them. Yep she is fighting for the people

I knew who it was before even opening this thread. This is by far the most ignorant member of the legislarure of all time. What an embarrassment. The sad part is she and most of her constituents are too dumb to be embarrassed.

At least Connie Brown had one line in there about promoting children getting outside and playing sports. This other chick and the chick from Tennessee seem like complete wastes.

She's right you know. Women, native Americans, poor whites and blacks were either property or second class citizens.

The video of her talking about the DOI is to the right of the other Youtube video of her.

"I know all men are not created equal."... Listen until she says, "All mens are free."

Representative Hodges looks like a bitter woman.

I mean you could make a pretty good case for the original unamended US Constitution being at least a bit racist but the Declaration didn't have any racist stuff in it at all.

Now it's pretty obvious that America didn't come anywhere one to living up to the promise of its ideals at the time of its founding, but that's kind of the story of American history-- struggling sometimes violently to live up to the promise of its founding. Hell, the Confederacy quite specifically was founded on rejecting the promise of America in favor of entrench in in word and deed the idea of eternal white supremacy.
