It's called research. We can't progress without it. What we learn can and will help us in future treatments for all living things. Prayers for Mike and all cancer victims.

How possible is it to get rid of this type of cancer?
Posted on 5/29/16 at 3:23 am to MBclass83
Like others have said, Mike is unfortunately the "rat" in this scenario. By treating this form of cancer with radiation, we get one more sample of the effects of it down the road. Weather the treatment works or its just a life prolonger.
No funds come from taxpayers.
PETA sees we care for our mikes
It is done on weekends not bumping human patients.
How can you not be for this?

You haven't been paying attention. Testing Mike and studying this may help humans. It's good to educate yourself before speaking idiocy.

PETA doesn't think like you do. They will insist Mike VI got cancer from living in the cage.

No, actually the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer treatment center has stated that they are donating their services free of charge, no donations are needed to cover costs. They suggest donations to the vet school animal welfare fund instead

I think I will put this as simply as possible. You are a dumbass!!!!!!!!!

Wonder if they do the same for innocent little children who are dying of cancer? Kids just wanting to grow up and play with their friends and go to school and run around the neighborhood but instead have to sit in the hospital all the time wondering why they always feel sick and why their parents can't afford to take them on vacations to Disney World. Always wondering why mommy is always crying at their bedside, probably thinking it's their fault that she's so upset all the time. Huh? Does Mary Bird Perkins stay open late and help those kids for free? Maybe they should take the donation and use it for something worthwhile.

It wouldn't matter. God himself could come down from heaven and declare that what LSU is doing is right in His eyes, and they'd argue with him till judgement day.

1. Very few children get treated at Mary Bird Perkins. They treat an occasional child, but most are treated at St Jude. Childhood cancers are a bit of a different deal. On occasion when it makes sense for the child's care, yes, they treat children.
2. If a patient needs treatment outside normal business hours, then yes, the center stays open late or opens early or on weekends to accommodate them.
3. Nobody is turned away due to financial reasons. Mary Bird Perkins treats people who have no insurance and no ability to pay every day.
Find something else to be outraged about. This isn't it.

The nurse on the right is holding his paw as they walk him in.

Great point. I'll go ahead and say as a father to a daughter born with a heart defect and having spent time and multiple visits to children's hospitals, I'm OK with this. If you were in a similar situation then you can feel however you want. If not then shut up and quit trying to be upset.
Also I hope anyone concerned about money and resources "wasted" on Mike have the same mentality towards athletic upgrades to facilities that cost millions because " that money could be helping people." If not then you are clearly picking and choosing what you care about.
