Chris Kyle embellished his military record?

quote:
“All told,” Kyle wrote in his book, “I would end my career as a SEAL with two Silver Stars and five Bronze [Stars], all for valor.”
But Kyle, who was murdered by a fellow military veteran several years after leaving the Navy, embellished his military record, according to internal Navy documents obtained by The Intercept. During his 10 years of military service and four deployments, Kyle earned one Silver Star and three Bronze Stars with Valor, a record confirmed by Navy officials.
Still pretty awesome even if he did add to his count...
quote:
Kyle was warned at least once before American Sniper was published that its description of his medal count was wrong, according to one current Navy officer, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about the case.
quote:
The discrepancy raises new questions about Kyle’s credibility and highlights a continuing controversy in the SEAL community over members exaggerating or distorting their war records. In one high-profile controversy, two members of SEAL Team 6 engaged in a public dispute over who deserved credit for the fatal shots that killed Osama bin Laden.
Within the military community, embellishing medals and achievements — so-called stolen valor — is considered a serious ethical violation.

He should be banned from the Navy and seals.

Didn't his wife write the book?

What a weird thing to embellish if you've already got a great record and it is easily verifiable.

Why lie about that?
Something that can so easily be fact checked?

Well he did it before when he said he hit Ventura

One of the reasons I don't get why he's celebrated so much. Not trying to take away from the amazing things he actually did, and the very sad and terrible circumstances of his death. But he blatantly lies about so many things. I don't understand that more people don't question his character. I mean again, I see how that's tough to criticize since he died and definitely did have an amazing military record despite the fabrications. But still...

he and luttrell are what the military community calls "entertainment seals." he embellished a ton of shite, so this isn't surprising in the least

Yeah, it's not like having "only" 1 Silver Star is anything to dismiss.
But we already knew he embellished some things (picking off people from the top of the Superdome, for instance) but it was weird, nevertheless.

Yeah I'm not shocked but the truth was plenty good enough, so it seems pretty useless.

Lol and this comes out years later? Sounds like someone is just digging for bullshite dirt.
Also, I saw this on FB today.
I'd assume there's about a 90% chance it's bullshite.
ETA: the Intercept? Lol great source....

No way! An attention whore ex military bro embellished his war record? Say it ain't so!!!
............. Yet somehow it still won't matter to his groupies. They'll continue propping up his family with his "foundation", book sales, etc...

I don't get him, must be something pathological like the clintons, could be Bill's long lost illegitimate son.

It's possible stuff doesn't make your DD214. I Had Some Stuff Missing (Nothing Like A SS though) but didn't feel like arguing with them about arcoms so they didn't make the dd214.

I struggle to understand the ways of the OT, i.e. how this and other posts in this thread don't have infinity downvotes. I can tell you that there is a very real chance that what he received and what is reflected in his official record have discrepancies. Beyond that, why are there anti-seal posts? Even if he did (and that is an if) embellish, what he did for our country cannot be fully encompassed by ribbons and medals. Just some food for thought.

What was his ranking when he retired?
