Bunch of e bad asses on here who haven't ever done anything and likely never will. They dog on the seals, older generations, and institutions worth my of respect because they think it's edgy. More likely, it's a constant reminder to them that there is something more important and respectable than they are. And that pisses them off.
(Not all posters here are as I described above, but it's easy to note the ones to whom it applies )
Upvote for you sir, quite possibly the best reply I've seen

Jury awarded Jesse Ventura 1.8 Mil for the story he made up about punching him out in a bar.
Go read the transcript of the trial, numerous people for both the plaintiff and defendant testified that they saw Ventura on the deck injured, but no one could confirm that it was Kyle did it. Maybe he slipped and fell, maybe someone else put him down, but it is undisputed by either side that Ventura was on the deck injured.

The Ventura stuff and the silver/bronze star are peanuts compared to his other "embellishments."
Stating that you shot and killed 30 people in New Orleans after Katrina and you killed two car jackers in Texas and reported it to police and nothing came of it is far, far more than embellishing a few stories. The rest of his book could be 100% factual but those two outright lies are so absurd that they call into question everything he says.
Is he to be respected and thanked for his service? Of course. Is he honorable? Hard to say considering that BS.

Were those two stories in the book? I'm honestly asking if they were.

But I think it's important to see the film American Sniper not as a biopic, but a completely different project loosely(or not) based on what and who he really was as a fictional protagonist. They chose to show some human flaws, but probably presented him a little more noble than he really was. Bradley Cooper wasn't playing Chris Kyle the real human, he was playing the myth of him. And it made for a damn fine dramatic film.
That movie was the American version of
Why did the other sniper randomly become Syrian?

No, they were not, and I didn't mean to imply that they were. The point is that future major lies are going to force people to question your previous statements, and rightfully so.

I just can't go on hearsay. I firmly uphold the thought in believing half of what you see and none of what you hear. He openly conversed about the Ventura incident. I always thought it was weird that everything about the other stories were complete hearsay. Maybe lies or tall tales told by others or maybe he said it for whatever reason. With no contextual backing I can't in good conscience condemn the man. I also can't understand the disdain some people on this site have for him.

What about the sniper fire in Bosnia? Did he lie about that too?
Oh wait- that's Hilldawg

Can you find the defendant ones for me?
Only ones I saw were the plantiff witnesses and they couldn't even agree with where he was punched.

Kyle was warned at least once before American Sniper was published that its description of his medal count was wrong, according to one current Navy officer, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about the case.
Sounds like an upstanding guy

What difference does it make? The man did four tours and put his life on the line for your freedom. He should be celebrated for that alone instead of criticized for what was written in a book. Who cares.
So serving multiple combat tours is a free pass for stolen valor?
Posted on 6/1/16 at 7:27 am to TejasPete
It's not stolen valor you Frick g idiot. He earned it. You're what's wrong with our country today. I'm sure your life has positively affected as many as his so you can question his accomplishments. Get your head out of your arse.

Maybe some of them are classified and thus not reflected in the records.

last advancement exam I took...I actually found out after the fact that my record was wrong with regards to my awards...I had one more than I thought...it happens all the time...his unit may have put him for the award and gotten it approved and issued it to him...and then it didn't get into his record...its really not uncommon...it's just that this is Chris Kyle..and not some nobody on a boat haze gray underway...
Posted on 6/1/16 at 7:53 am to SthGADawg
I actually received an award that didn't get documented; iirc it was an aam or arcom.
This shite happens a lot even today I can only imagine how often during ww1 ww2 etc.
Hell some douchebag wanted to discredit and accuse CSM Plumley of stolen valor

I'm pro Chris Kyle so to speak, but the lies he told in the book were dumb and unnecessary.
He tells lies in the book, then he doesn't? Which is it asshat?

When that book came out and some people that were more in the know started questioning the accuracy/truthfulness of much of it, I read where those two stories were in the copy initially sent to the editors. You would think they would have a huge hard on thinking of the potential sales but apparently it was a little too sensational for "non-fiction," and they told Kyle to offer up some sort of proof or anyone who could corroborate, and of course he could not, so they edited them out. The Ventura tale remained only because they made him remove Ventura's name from the story.

Im not sure why so many people in here are offended? My military friends all say Seals are known for being suckers for the limelight.
A Delta kills you then takes a nap.
A Seal kills you then writes a book.

Quite possible but he shouldn't have listed or discussed any that were classified. Personally the whole thing is overblown....the dude was a badass, served with honor and deserves our respect.
