Is UCLA's brand that strong?

yeah, adults with jobs.
These are teenage students playing a game in between going to class. They shouldn't be paid. If they are then what even makes them amateurs anymore?
I'm going with a different logic here.
Mine is that this is an all expenses paid apprenticeship for these athletes to hone their skills before they become multi-millionaire pros.
I also think the NCAA should allow them to moonlight. Do local car and restaurant commercials etc.
But they shouldn't be salaried.

So we shouldn't pay them so they can continue to carry the tag of amateur?

UCLA's brand is truly massive abroad especially in Asia. There are entire UCLA-branded stores in Chinese shopping malls.

The guy who basically created the NCAA is on record talking about how messed up the system is.

I guess in the US I don't think it's as big as Texas, Michigan and OSU (Just based on the article). A lot of this is "when" you make the deal. If OSU was making a deal next week, Nike would do $300

I hope they don't ruin those beautiful football unis.
it can only go up from where Adidas left them. I fully expect them to go back to something like this. Look at Auburn or Notre Dame for reference on keeping a traditional look.

Adidas is the only brand out there that's shittier than Under Armour.
What's weird is that outside of the U.S. Adidas dominates, mainly because of soccer. They have some pretty nice shite.
I don't know what their deal is outside of soccer though. Most of their shite is atrocious. You'd think they could hire some competent designera for other sports.

Because it's not, not even close.
Like you said, though, timing is also another huge factor for these things.

Scholarships were nice forms of compensation prior to uniform deals like this. Throw in TV deals and merchandise sales, and I think it's unfair. The dollars thrown around in athletic administration is unreal.

how is that any different from what these adults do?
because their job is to go to class and be students while also playing football. They are amateurs. Ya know, not being paid for their services.
The coaches, ADs, and everyone else in teh industry..this is literally their actual job which necessitates compensation.
And as mentioned, these kids are getting 6 figures worth of free shite that the normal college student doesn't. Free housing, free food, unlimited access to tutors and private instruction, health/medical coverage, free clothes, a tryout 12 times a year to their future employer showing their worth, etc.
The day college fb players get paid legally is the day CFB as we've known it will die.

quote:Understanding adjusting for inflation, I'm guessing the salaries of coaches, ADs, administration types has gone up by a crazy factor compared to that education the players get in this booming industry. Would you agree?

good for them because Adidas has completely butchered their football uniforms

because their job is to go to class and be students
quote:That's the issue. Think about what I've said before, we're trying to fit the same rules that were used starting the NCAA before billions of dollars were introduced. It's illogical to think the rules shouldn't change for ONLY the athletes.
y are amateurs. Ya know, not being paid for their services.

because their job is to go to class and be students while also playing football.

"The average athletic scholarship is about $10,400"
here says a mens athletic scholarship is worth $14,270
quote:which is worth pennies over the hundreds of million of dollars they provide the school with

please tell me how big of an amateur sport it is right now. schools sell tshirts and jersies with players numbers on them. they build 100k stadiums that require PSLs to buy season tickets for. they sell media rights that are worth like 1/3 or 1/2 of a billion dollars. but yea, totally an armature sport

"The average athletic scholarship is about $10,400"

The average athletic scholarship is about $10,400. Only four sports offer full rides to all athletes who receive scholarships: football, men's and women's basketball, and women's volleyball. If you exclude football and men's basketball, the average scholarship drops to around $8,700.
So let me get this straight. This bitch is telling us that if you are a man, your scholarship is worth more at the same school, than a woman?
Literally. It says that if you exclude the men's sports from the 4 that pay full scholarships, the average tuition amount drops? This can't be right?
