What is a hose? What is a pipe? I think that answers your question right there.
So which one do you call it OP, since you said it is in a serious drunken debate.

Move the hosepipe by the carport (no walls) so we can go get an inspection sticker and go grocery shopping but you don't have to get out of the car.
Move the garden hose by the garage (still no walls) so we can go get a brake tag and make groceries but you don't have to get down.

Hose pipe. I said this to someone from Alaska a week ago. They were flabbergasted.

It's a hose pipe. It connects to a hose bib or in some cases a wall hydrant.

My wife's family still calls a refrigerator and ice box.

Hose pipe sounds very Yankee. Whoever uses that term needs to learn how to fricking speak.
Just about as yankee as "ink pen". You're a dummy if you think that sounds yankee. In the north they call the fricking thing a hose because they aren't retarded.

Born and raised in South Louisiana, it's always been a hose pipe.

I just call it a hose.
"Bring me the hose so I can water these tomato plants."

Hose and pipe are redundant. It's water hose for the win!

They say hose pipe in Pike County.
Not Pike County MS. It's a water hose connects to the water faucet or hose bib.
