His contract extends to boxing?

Probably. I bet there's verbiage in the standard UFC contract that bars competing in other combat sports.

Big time punching power? If you put 4 ounce gloves on a heavy handed boxer they would kill someone.

May weather would get demolished in everything else.

Ali fought some very tall Japanese guy who was billed as some kind of martial arts expert. the Japanese man lay on his back the whole fight trying to catch Ali in his legs.
nothing happened.

IMHO, Mayweather is too old for mixed martial arts.

I think people would pay to see him be demolished.
He better watch a lot of tape.

Read the rules of that "fight."

I wouldn't use that as any sort of indication of how FM would do in an MMA fight.

but with the amount of money the fight would bring in maybe the UFC would be interested as long as they got their share of the take. If Mayweathers ego is big enough to fight McGregor under MMA rules it would be the biggest PPV event ever. I don't see how else they could do the fight. No way McGregor would agree to a boxing match with Mayweather, plus that wouldn't be the big draw that a MMA type fight would generate.

Maybe they could go with MMA rules but with no submissions allowed. No chokeouts or arm bars and that sort of thing. But still allow takedowns and ground and pounds.

The only way this fight would be remotely interesting is if they split the format to make the first six rounds boxing and the last six rounds MMA. That format would also force Mayweather to be much more aggressive than usual which would make for a more exciting fight.

Yeah, no. There are no rules that if they started standing up, Floyd would play with and destroy McGregor. I'm not even a Floyd fan, but I don't think he would get touched. It would last as long as Floyd wanted it to. He may dance around for a bit, but once he decided to go, he would hit Connor 10 times before he even knew they were fighting.

MMA guys are vey skilled and versatile. But they are not on the same planet as all-time great, professional boxers. Assuming the weight classes are close.

The point is he's under contract, they wouldn't let Conor participate in the fight.

People break contracts all the time, I'm sure Conor would much rather have the $50M upfront than whatever peanuts he'll have to pay to the UFC

Floyd would pepper him and toy with him for as long as he wanted in a "true" boxing match. Conor would connect with a few blows but would be wore out by the third round.

Only way this fight happens is if Conor self promotes and is no longer under ufc contract.

Floyd made this crap up to help Conor get more buzz after Dana white told Conor he wasn't fighting at ufc 200.

Conor talked all that crap at press conferences but loses one fight and now he doesn't want to fulfill that obligation.

This is a hugely underrated factor- GGG in UFC gloves would probably beat a man to death inside of a round.

You think Mayweather would hang with McGregor in kickboxing?

McGregor would kick the everliving shite out of him.

It's a far-fetched idea.Conor couldn't box with Floyd and I doubt Floyd would last very long with MMA Rules.

It reminds me of when Ali was the Heavyweight Champ he went to Japan and did an exhibition fight against their Champion Wrestler.

The guy laid on his back pretty much for the entire ordeal, kicking at Ali's legs.

A list of restrictions was imposed on Inoki. He would not be allowed to throw, grapple or tackle Ali, and could not land any kicks unless he had one knee on the mat.[3]Ali's camp also demanded that the rules not be made public before the fight.
