It basically did prove that Macs are a terrible value, and that even those artsy types that "need" Macs for a living are better off with a pc.

I use PCs regularly but life in general is easier for me on a Mac for my everyday tasks. I don't encounter problems that I can't fix on PCs with relative ease, but I simply don't have the same hiccups on my Macs.
I'm biased, and I can't object to anyone liking Windows better. But for quite a long stretch Mac build quality was superior to most PCs, and that is still true (although it is more competitive now, I think). You can say Macs are overpriced (probably true), but you're usually not making apples to apples comparisons. The idea that it's some grand scam is ridiculous. Millions of people are very pleased to own Macs and they sell a ton of them. They also have pretty good longevity.
Compare an MBP/MB to an XPS or Surface Book or that ridiculous new HP Spectre. Are any of them notably superior in handling? The MBPs are boring right now, but they're probably about to get a refresh.
Back to the topic at hand, I went out intending to buy one of the aforementioned PCs or a MBP a couple weeks ago. Ended up buying the 2015 MB instead (got a nice deal the day the 2016 came out). So far I have no issues.
Keyboard is different but not problematic for me. Anyone considering it needs to try it first, though.
Trackpad is great, as expected.
Screen is unreal.
I've noticed no lag for any of my normal tasks. It's my primary work computer at home (attorney, so mostly PDFs and word processing). I haven't taxed it too much, but don't really need to do so. Most intensive thing I do is Lightroom (and Chrome). The port thing doesn't bother me at all, surprisingly. Maybe I'm a rarity, but I leave the adapter hooked to one of my chargers and my external monitor. I never have a need to use a flash drive. When buying, I asked myself how often I needed extra ports in my years prior using an MBP. Rarely ever.

Except it means having to run Windows instead of OSX.
ETA: Meaning that some people see the extra value of doing that and factor that in when choosing between the two systems.

I don't mean this as a troll, but what is the benefit to running OSX over Windows? I'm genuinely curious. Is there some sort of software that runs better or only on Macs?

The only time I have to reboot my macbook is after OSX updates that require it. Shows zero sluggishness, regardless of the number of programs I install or uninstall.

Let's do the retest in 2 or 3 years of service. All of my apple stuff still works like its brand new 2 to 3 years in. Some of my Windows stuff still does. That difference, is worth a couple hundred dollars. The ability to buy and forget about problems for 4-5 years is worth the difference all day long and twice on Sunday.

The build quality and the materials/design/software that go into an Apple product are simply better. My MBP 2010 has never had to be repaired for anything, never a virus/malware etc. I did upgrade the ram in it but its still pretty fast. Last year I went and bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with an i7, SSD, pretty much as good as you could get and there's been one problem after another. Drivers, connect-ability, display trouble.. OSX and Apple products in general hold up better with fewer issues. Just my personal experience though.

This is highly dependent upon your situation and needs. I've had my MacBook for seven years, and don't look to replace it anytime soon. While I have had to upgrade the RAM and storage in the past 12 months, the computer is still going strong. In that time frame, all non-Mac users in my family have averaged 2 new computer purchases since then. Before I bought my Mac, I had two Dells die on me through undergrad and my master's program.
Where is the poor value if I am able to get longer use out of my computer? It also flawlessly shares key data with my phone and work computer. Yes, there are third-party apps to do this on non-Mac devices, but I am able to do everything natively.

They also spec-bumped the Macbook Airs and upped the minimum RAM for all MacBooks to 8 GB. There is speculation that the MacBook Pros are getting a full redesign since they haven't been touched since 2013.

Come on man. Up until about 4 years ago, I was 100% PC. I've built countless Windows based computers, have used 5 or 6 Windows laptops, and have used nothing but Windows at work for forever. I've had too many random lockups, slowdowns, blue screens, etc. to believe this is true.

This mimics my experience. It's not that I ultimately had any long term trouble, but my PC experiences lately have just been finicky. Granted, better than they were when I used PCs exclusively and they started falling apart after 18 months (pre 2010), but just more annoying to use than my Macs.

bought my daughter an ACER chromebook for $79 that has an 8 hour battery life.
she freaking loves it. she's always listening to music, watching netflix, doing all her homework with gdocs, etc.
yeah yeah i know..its a stupid chromebook and doesn't do any 'real' computer-stuff but i'm telling you i'm incredibly jealous of it when my brand new freaking dell work laptop barely gets 2 hours of battery life and takes forever to wake up when it goes to sleep.
the chromebook embodies what a laptop should be ...useful, simple, cheap, light..and a full day out of the battery.

I prefer trackpads (especially the Magic Trackpad). But I do have a Magic Mouse at home to use with my MacBook. It's bluetooth, of course, because it's 2016.
