Golfers who have broken 80: Was it easier to do after you broke the barrier?

My question is: Once you finally broke 80, did it become easier to do after you finally achieved this goal?

I have shot 80 multiple times but have never shot a 79 or better. I'm thinking once I finally get there it will give me confidence going forward that I can do it and will be able to break 80 more consistently.

Once you got there, were you able to do it more consistently going forward?

If I'm being honest I don't remember the last round I didn't break 80. I've never had a hard time with it.

Of course I play at a 9-hole course lol.

Absolutely not. I used to be a 5 handicap. Right now I'm a 10.

The only thing that makes golf easier is spending hours a day practicing and/or playing daily.

Nope...did it twice years ago when I was playing quite a bit. I now haven't been playing much, played a week or so and haven't played but maybe twice in the last few years and I shot a 106

A real 79 or a Judge Smails 79?

If you add up your score on the 18th tee it probably will help. My first time was with a guy that shot 74. I didn't think I was playing well bc he beat me on a few holes.

No. I shot a 78 about 6 years ago and that is my only round sub 80 round since. I get danger close to breaking 80 several times a year but it always seems like I will frick something up and my chance is blown.

If you build it up in your head like a barrier to break, then maybe. Just try to hits better shots each round and have fun. Remember, you will never be a professional golfer, so enjoy them game.

Stop adding up your score on the course as you go along. Just write down your scores & then add them at the end.

Once I broke 80 & 70 it was easier after that for me.

This probably helps a lot.

I'm going to start doing this.

Same here.

I havent played much since high school though.

I think one thing that really helped me was playing with good golfers. My dad and his golfing buddies could all shoot under par and one of my best friends was the same. Playing a round where you arent dealing with the other players hacking it around makes you play better, imo.

I want to get back in it soon though

Once you break 80... you are not going to break it every single time. But if you keep playing, you will consistently break it because you will get better

Broke 80 once.

Didn't play as much golf after that. You just need to be playing/practicing a lot.

Also, don't have kids.

I was as good at 13 as I am now at 38. Just never really got better after a certain point. I can shoot 75 or 90 on any given day.

only did it a handful of times. its hard. I know every break and bounce at my club and still manage 82-85 most rounds. Always look back at 3-4 strokes each nine that derail my round.
