Typically you would sell a steer at 18 months old when he weighs between 1000-1500 lbs
that makes more sense.

Do Longhorns taste better than other cattle or are they just novelties?

I like a good bit of ear on a brangus or tiger stripe but can be a pain in the arse in a catch pen

They should auction him off with a 50lb bag of Kingsford charcoal next to him.

He sells as lot 1. It starts at 6:30 pm tonight. We should have a price shortly after.

I've got dinner plans so I can't watch the live feed of the auction, but I'll be checking facebook as it will hit there quickly. There's a group for breeders that always does live updates during sales.

The cattle market in general is down. He just didn't bring what they thought.

Supposedly somebody new to longhorns bought him.

That's still high for what I could imagine anyone wanting to pay for a steer. I don't really follow the cloning an all that so not sure if owning him to have an unlimited supply of his DNA is that big of a deal

That animal is an inbred retard.

Thank you Texas!

I got behind a trailer with a Longhorn in it on I-20 today. That guy was so big his horns stuck out of both sides of the trailer. He got them hung up in the railing of the trailer twice scratching himself.

Serious question - will the breeders ever get the horns so long that the animal would have trouble holding them up?

I figure 200-300 lbs is nothing for them but how big are these things going to get?

I'm curious what your fascination is with Longhorns.

They don't produce as high quality beef as Angus, albeit they are a leaner carcass.

If lean beef is the aim then Piedmontese is the superior breed. I'm biased as Piedmontese is the breed I plan to build a herd of. For what I value there's just not a better breed.

I have a good friend that loves Longhorns and has begun using the hides to make belts and cushions and other leather products after they're processed.

Maybe it's my hate for the U. of Texas but I've never understood with the obsessions with that breed.

Pretty much the only thing Longhorns don't have going for them is quality of beef and special handling of the horns.

I imagine a good set of horns and the hide make up some of the difference
