Alright, so it's always fun to talk about possibilities following each film. What villains do we see, what storylines will show up? How does Infinity War build to a crescendo?

The end of CW left us with the Avengers - Tony and Vision and....? And either SWORD or the Secret Avengers - Cap and Everyone Else. BW is off on her own, as well. Strange probably ends up an Avenger by the end of his film, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone shows up.

I think we will finally get out of the "Where is everybody?" critique in successive MCU films that are not isolated origins. You know the "Where is Thor during Iron Man 3?" questions. If IM 4 happens, I suspect Vision, WM and someone else would be in it. If the BW movies happens - Winter Soldier or Hawkeye or nearly locks. I think this throws Black Panther into a cool area as well as I think if not Steve - it will at least feature Bucky and probably others. And we already know that Thor and Hulk are buddying it up in Ragnorak, and that's exciting.

This opens up a ton of options as well, especially with Secret Avengers (MOON KNIGHT! - Yeah not going to happen). They had some great stories and were involved in an Infinity Gem search.

Mostly, I think this raises the chances for IM4 exponentially. And maybe keeping the Secret Avengers team together post Civil War (Evans has said he's in for more movies if Marvel will have him, so that's great news). Or you let Bucky lead the Secret Avengers - which I would hope would see the rise of Zemo as well.

Honestly, I'm a bit concerned about Infinity War. As much as I enjoyed CW, it came awfully close to having just too much going on. IW is supposed to have even more characters so I'll be interested in seeing how they manage all that.

It's a fair concern. The thing about IW will be how do you regulate character progression in a film with 50 people. It won't be "one person's story," and it won't be "one small group's story." That CAN be a problem. There's the risk that the movie is an event film, full of plot devices, a thin story, etc. That's a huge risk. Hopefully CW was an experiment. How far could they go? Hence my comment about Hawkeye in the Review thread - that's how characters are going to have to be handled outside of 4-5 of them. I think the core is going to have to be just as small in IW as it was in CW. CW was primarily about Cap, Bucky, BP, IM and Zemo.

I kind of don't want to see War Machine anymore. He's not a great character and Don Cheadle bugs me.

I can see Falcon showing up (again) in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Mackie has pretty good comedic timing so it would be dumb not to exploit having him and Rudd on screen more. Is Adam McKay still involved with that project since he's going to be working with the Hasbro universe? I don't know where they'll go with villains, but I can almost guarantee we're going to meet Janet.

Here is the slate of movies for Phase 3:

Dr. Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Thor: Ragnarok
Black Panther
Infinity Wars pt1
Antman & Wasp
Ms. Marvel
Infinity War pt2.

What I find interesting is that there seems to be two movies between the Infinity Wars movies. Does that mean Ant Man/Wasp/Ms. Marvel are not going to be as involved in the first part of the movie? How will their movies address what happened during IW?

I think, along with comments from the Russos, that IW will change and be two different movies. I highly doubt Thanos is the big bad of the first part, rather he scoops in near the end and the second movie is all about him.

Thor is not the last movie before IW starts, so unless Black Panther goes back before the events of Thor (maybe directly after the events of Civil War?) than it would be odd to have Thanos gather all the gems and we have to wait through another movie that does not address it at all before we see payoffs.

I don't know how set in stone the order of these movies are so some of this may change.

We still have 2 more infinity stones to see as well IIRC.
The soul stone and the time stone.

My guess would be we see the Soul Stone in Dr Strange, then the Time stone in Thor.

Hopefully in Spider Man we will see a hint of some of the CW aftermath on Stark's team, whereas in Black Panther we'll see a hint on the Captain's side.

IW part 1 is probably what gets the gang back together and IW part 2 is then the finale.

The more I think about it, the more I think IW (infinity wars) part 1 will really be an avengers: CW aftermath style movie.

They have done a great job building the MCU even movies that weren't great added depth and references.

I just want Captain America to die ASAP like he does in the Civil War comic arc. I knew they wouldn't do it in the movie, but god. After ingesting that over the weekend (which I loved) I want Cap dead. Not only did he defend a guy who murdered Tony's parents clear as day, but he hid it from Tony too.

I already didn't like how goody-too-shoes he was, but after that I honestly hate this Captain America.

Rant over

Trying so hard. I'm sure you'll get someone to bite on this though.

The Soul Stone has to be linked to Adam Warlock, period. Since Magus is supposed to be the villain of Infinity War Part 2, that's almost a certainty.

The Time Stone is likely linked to the Eye of Agamotto (Strange).

As far as Moon Knight goes, Marvel has got to form a Midnight Sons series featuring Mark Spector (Moon Knight), Eric Brooks (Blade), Daimon Hellstrom, and Michael Morbius.

How am I trying hard? That's legitimately how I feel and it isn't farfetched seeing as it happened in the comics.

I'd say because it's Avengers: Infinity War - That IW1 will focus on Tony's team...not sure if we'll see them before that.

For Infinity War, I just want to see what looks like a hopeless situation and suddenly hear an iconic 70's tune blaring through the sky as the Milano streaks in with a fleet of Xandarian or Spartaxian warships behind it to provide reinforcements.

I'd like one movie where the Avengers are team and go the entire film without fighting each other.

Would probably be the best way to bring the Guardians in without burdening the movie with their presence the entire time. I'd be ok with that.

I think CW was definitely a dry run of IW and managing those difficulties. At this point you'd have to say it's fair to be optimistic about the direction they're going. The Russo brothers are the best thing that's happened to the MCU to this point.

Do you think Moon Knight would be a better fit for the Netflix MCU as opposed to the feature films?

He's a better fit for Netflix, but he's such a good foil for multiple Avengers that I think he would be more interesting on screen. Neither will happen however.

I haven't seen Winter Soldier yet, but I think its time to start executing the plan to move on from this group of characters. Or these actors at least. Killing Captain America wouldn't be the worst idea, nor would be Tony Stark retiring as Iron Man and becoming the new director of SHIELD. Leave the stage when you are still receiving the love of the crowd.

Of course, this means finding new anchor characters, which should be Black Panther and Captain Marvel. T'challa and Carol Danvers could be the new central characters of the MCU, allowing Marvel to clear the deck for the Young Avengers, the Runaways, or even Cloak and Dagger (or Moon Knight!). But it might be time to start thinking of the transition away from Chris Evans and RDJ, who have spoken openly about wanting to retire from the gig.

This could also mean promoting Luke Cage and Jessica Jones to the big leagues or moving on to Kate Bishop as Hawkeye.

Or f'n She-Hulk.
