I don't think it does any good to downplay it or equate it to basketball. Americans who try to get into soccer and don't like it, that's always their biggest problem. It's a pervasive problem. It just goes against our American sense of what sports should be about, and the main reason Americans won't fully embrace soccer. They never will until they fix it.

I watch EPL weekly and I only see a ridiculous, prolonged dive every few weeks or so. People go down and act for a second, but usually it's difficult for me to discern whether it's legit or not.

Full speed trips and tumbles without protection are less common in most other sports. That someone might stay down for a few seconds to either a) let the impact wear off or b) try and sell the foul doesn't bother me at all.

South American shite? Yes, that's different. But it rarely impacts much for me in EPL.

I don't mind players exaggerating contact in an attempt to get the call. I do mind when they stay down after not getting it and play has to be stopped.

No they couldn't. It would take a while but NBA would run out eventually.

Besides the whole flopping culture in the NBA started with Europeans and South Americans who grew up playing socceer

shite can really hurt. I don't know what y'all are talking about. I've seen players sustain foot fractures from getting stepped on with cleats.

Obviously there are players of all cultures playing in the league but if someone watches the premier league it's definitely not as bad as watching a Spanish team in the World Cup or an el Classico

For example, people who watch the champions league final should be expecting the worst considering the teams

For the record, I agree with you. I hate soccer. It is the one sport I find somehow more boring and pointless than baseball.

I just never miss a chance to post that pic of Paul Pierce, ever.

Clocks still running. They get him off the field and work on him on the sideline.

We've seen plenty of guys in football where they bring out that damn little truck to throw someone on and it turns out to be something minor.

Seeing them bring out the stretcher is rare. I watched someone try to run off what looks to be a serious knee injury and then leave the field under his own power just this past weekend.

Ive had it happen too. I've seen it happen plenty, but if he wasnt seriously injured then he could have walked/limped off with help.

The 10 minutes where they lay on the ground whaling around and getting checked out only to get carried off is just ridiculous.

Exactly. It is why I can see you getting a bad point of reference if you only watch the US play because the CONCACAF teams love them some dives.

well you cant compare soccer to the nba when tallying a number. one is a sport, the other is a league (err association) of a sport. you either have to compare the nba to something like the EPL or compare soccer to basketball (all countries).

The point is it happens a lot more in soccer, especially international soccer. If it happened as often in the NBA I would stop watching NBA

These threads never fail to bring out the mouth breathers whose go to argument is that soccer isn't as "manly" as American sports.

yes, because the rest of the world is impatiently waiting on an incestual redneck from Alabama to embrace their passion

soccer is definitely a manly sport. saying otherwise is just stupid. i agree with you there. but the overselling of fouls isnt just an american complaint.
