Crepe Myrtles in front of my house

I bought my house a few years ago, older neighborhood, built in 1948.
The previous owner for some reason planted crepe myrtles along the street. Thinking of taking them out and sodding to the edge of the road. Also have talked to DOT and they will take out the tree I have marked as #1.
The crepe myrtles look a heck of a lot better than when I bought the house, but still....do I want trees in front of my house? The oak tree provides a nice canopy over the road, but I can't get grass under it...should I take it out?

Do what you need to do. We don't care.

Those are crappy crepe myrtles. Crappy placement and crappy pruning.

Those smaller ones look out of place and cheapen your house a bit. I wouldn't hesitate to remove them.

I'm personally more of a fan of Pancake Myrtles.

Fact.
Fact.

Crepe myrtles are a generational thing. I am convinced. I am in my 30s and have had them removed from 3 different houses. You don't see young people put them in when they have their landscaping re-done. They look grandmother-ish, require constant maintenance, grow out in all directions instead of up, and for some reason people always plant them right up next to a house so they grow up under the eaves, mess with the shingles, and rub up against the house. Keep the oak for sure. Have the limbs cut off if they overhang your house though and have someone thin the sub-canopy.
I have a house from 1940 and after we moved in we had the oak limbs that were over the roof removed, had the magnolia that was hanging down to the ground by the road and blocking the view of the house limbed-up and had the dead limbs cut out of it, had the monkey grass areas removed and replaced with sod, and took out all of the crepe myrtles. Result - night and day difference. Now it is attractive, airy, there's light, and doesn't look like a grandmother lives here with a rat problem.

I really like crepe myrtles, but the ones you have don't seem to be in great shape or well placed. What color are they?

1 or 2 doesn't look like crpep myrtles. Those bushes would be the first thing I got rid of.

i would get rid of them because i hate the smell of them.

I would pull them up. That's too many, too close regardless.

...start trimming them and start watering them properly.
These in the background of my beer pic from yesterday are five years old.
Warning, if you get them this size and manage to kill one, a replacement is about 6k. Don't ask.

Leave them. They provide shade.
