Mate, you need to understand that some of these jerks here think that they are being funny & are giving you dumb advice. The campus is totally safe & tailgating starts as early as 7 in the morning in some areas. DO get your hotel reservations IMMEDIATELY as most sell out way in advance & most require a 2 night stay on LSU game days. I'd suggest not wearing any purple & gold LSU gear as there will be 100,000 LSU fans doing that. Wear something that will make clear you are from Australia. You will have no need to buy any booze or food wearing Aussie shirts. No glass containers are allowed, so make sure you use the plastic cups the tailgaters will give you. Take your time, as tailgating lasts all day long & a lot of areas have post game tailgating as well. Going downtown post game will take a while, a good hour or so, so stop & grab a drink or 4 while waiting. Reggie's is a college crowd bar if you are comfortable with that. When with a tailgating crew, ask them where is the best place to go post game. Do not mess with Baton Rouge Police if shite starts, but most will be helpful if you are sober & just asking for information. On a typical game day there will be over 100,000 on campus: to get an idea of what kind of tailgating you will see, google LSU TIGER FOOTBALL tailgating and you should get a good idea. If Baton Rouge hotels are full already, you might consider staying in New Orleans & driving in game day. It's about an hour plus drive on game day & it's easy to get to TIger Stadium off the interstate. October can be hot, so keep an eye on the weather forecasts & dress appropriately. Many wear shorts & t shirts, some wear jeans, some wear slacks. I'd suggest dress comfortable for potentially being in the sun for 6-7-9 hrs. Keep writing here & as the game approaches I am sure some here will give you specific directions as to where to meet them for their tailgating.
Thanks heap man, I know some here are trying to be funny and that's cool, us aussies don't mind a bit of banter and fun
Appreciate your advice, I was wondering whether we're better off wearing so Australian rugby league jerseys or something like that which makes it pretty clear that we're not locals.
I've started looking at accommodation now as everyone says it books up real quick, hopefully we can get something in downtown.
Yeah sounds like it's a massive day, definitely gonna have to pace ourselves haha
Reggies seems cool but it's in the opposite direction of downtown correct? Looks like its south of campus
I've definitely watched some videos on youtube and like what I see, hence why we chose LSU as our only college game to see.

Actually, the more bogan you are, the better chance you have of meeting awesome people. Play up the stereotype... the chicks dig it.

You can say "mate" but don't say "ta". It's highly offensive.
No problem with that, I don't say 'ta' at all

Awesome thanks for the tip, was wondering the best way to mingle with the local females
Will definitely wear something unique!

Any recommendations in terms of stadium tickets? Are there any sections where we should avoid?

Great advice. Aussies all look the same to us, so we won't know the difference.

I vote Aussie gear for sure. If you are in a Tim Cahill jersey, drinks on me all day!

Wear the Aussie clothes but put an LSU cap on to signify that you want the free beer and food!

I'd recommend looking into the Staybridge Hotel, it's right next to campus and next door to Walk On's.

Yeah good plan, I'll be the aussie guy walking around campus punting footballs up in the air!

Geez my initial search of accommodation is scary, already very booked up, might have to stay 15mins out from Downtown
Posted on 5/4/16 at 9:36 pm to Andres
What about Walk On's?
Would you recommend that as a good place to go after the game while traffic dies down?

I don't live in Baton Rouge, don't go there much, didn't attend LSU and didn't know anything about Walk On's until my daughters dragged me to the one in Shreveport last week. If I didn't have anybody to tell me better, that's where I'd go, but I'm an old fart. The food is great and there's a decent selection of beer. The crowd in Shreveport was a typical after-work mix of folks just off work and families. I wouldn't consider it especially conducive to partying or picking up girls, but it would probably improve later in the evening and the one in BR would probably be much more enticing after the game.

shite man, so is it pretty unsafe to walk outside the stadium/campus?
It is pretty safe, it's just the walk to downtown goes through the ghetto and there isn't really a decent side walk down Nicholson to get you there.
But if you walked the other direction to tigerland, you would be fine.
I would stay downtown though, just uber or shuttle to campus from hotel.
