Just giving this a bump, we fly out to the US in about 3 weeks, this is the big highlight I'm looking forward to!
Gotta read through all this again but for those hosting tailgates and happy to have a couple of aussies visit please let me know, my liver has been warned in advance!...

Really just walk around to all the tents that are cooking (which is most of them) and strike up a conversation. Almost everyone will feed people, especially a foreigner at their first LSU game.
