So we're here and ready for the game tomorrow!
Can you guys recommend a good bar we can go to tonight to have a few drinks, music and meet some local ladies?
Chimes?

Chimes?
Just giving this a bump, we fly out to the US in about 3 weeks, this is the big highlight I'm looking forward to!
Gotta read through all this again but for those hosting tailgates and happy to have a couple of aussies visit please let me know, my liver has been warned in advance!

make sure to bump this thread a week or two before the game.
would love to have you guys stop by our tailgate
Will do, would love to meet up with you guys for a drink, that would be great, thanks

You already said you're Australian.
Really just walk around to all the tents that are cooking (which is most of them) and strike up a conversation. Almost everyone will feed people, especially a foreigner at their first LSU game.
As to where to sit, there's not really any bad seats. However, if it's a day/afternoon start I'd avoid the East side: you have the sun in your eyes at the beginning and sometimes it's still pretty hot at that time of year.
Afterwards, The Chimes is usually fun. It's right off campus and has a good beer selection from around the world. Plus the food is good if you're still hungry after the game.
Thanks for the tips
Sounds like we won't have any problems mixing it up with the tailgates, we'll just say hi and marvel at what they're cooking!
Regarding the game, when do they announce the kick off time? I think at this stage they all say TBA

Bring some VB ale. All (most) Americans know is the Fosters crap.
Haha that's funny, no one here in Oz drinks Fosters either!

I'm headed to your beautiful country three weeks from today. Staying at the Marriott Sydney Harbour at Circular Quay--a great place to see all the Vivid Sydney light shows!
Fantastic you'll have a great time, we head in to the city every year for the Vivid light show, its a great time to be in town

I think this would be much better than wearing Purple and Gold. I know you want to wear our colors and support us...and it can be safe wearing Purple and Gold because they won't Tiger Bait you like they will the other team. But if you're wearing a Rugby Jersey, plus people hear your accent when you walk up to them, just tell them where you're from and you've heard so much about LSU Tailgating you had to see it for yourself. People will treat you better than their own. Who are we playing the day you're coming in? If it's a rent a win, then nobody would care what you're wearing anyway...but if it's Bama or Ole Miss, then don't wear those colors unless you want to hear a never ending chorus of Tiger Bait and have drinks thrown at you instead of handed to you. You'll have a great time...
Yeah I think I'm gonna go with some sort of Aussie shirt and a LSU cap.
Game we're coming for is LSU v Missouri. Any colours we should avoid?
I have to say I'm completely overwhelmed with the amount of responses I've received, I wasnt sure about whether I should be posting on this forum and thought it might be ignored or deleted.
If this thread is any indication of the hospitality we're gonna receive on the day I think its gonna be one of the most memorable things I ever do!

Andres, campus area is safe after a game. There are so many cops around anyway that the thugs just don't bother. If you look on a map, Roosevelt St to the I-10 just north of it is basically the ghetto. There is nothing there anyway, so you're not missing out at all. Anywhere south of Roosevelt is completely fine, like anywhere, just use your wits and be aware. And franky, people park in the hood on Gameday so it's pretty safe then.
Definitely drink at The Chimes just off campus. It's a great place to grab a pint, or get shite housed.
If you want to easily get laid, go to Freds Bar in Tigerland. Downtown is also fun, there is a strip there with a ton of random bars to try out.
Zippys is a good place to grab lunch on a non-gameday. Usually some hot girls and they have some nice drinks.
On a hotel, the closer the better. A good recommendation though is the Residence Inn Towne Center. Only because it's in a very nice part of town (close to where I live) and they have a lot of food options. It is a bit of a drive though.
On what to wear, definitely an LSU hat and something Aussie should do. We love our Aussie players.
Before you go, if you're heading East out of town, take Highland Road from the LSU lakes (such a pretty area) all the way east to where Highland meets I-10. It's a beautiful drive and really let's you see the charm Baton Rouge has. Some gorgeous homes too. Baton Rouge from the highway just doesn't show the beauty of the area!
Great suggestions, thanks for taking the time to post
Seems like the area is pretty safe apart from the small bit up north which we will just avoid.
Chimes is definitely on the list, seem that Freds Bar should also be on the list as we're keen to mingle with the girls, just hope they're happy to chat to random aussies
Thanks for the tip too regarding the drive east of town, will definitely take that option as we're driving to New Orleans afterwards

I love foreigners. I'll make it a mission to head out there and tailgate with you if you interested. Plan on making all the home games this year anyway.
That sounds great, would love to meet up for a drink if you're there

Buy your shirts in Baton Rouge.
Tiger Mania, Black & Gold Sports Shop, WalMart, Tiger People, Tiger District, LSU bookstore and LSU gift shop near stadium all have LSU shirts.
Thanks for this, are those places on campus?

I'll be at that game.
Get to campus early. Not like crack of dawn early but if you can get there by say, noon? That would be good. And that's pushing it.
Traffic is always backed up on gamedays.
Get there early so you can experience everything.
As silly as it sounds, just walk up to tailgates and ask how things are going. People will talk to you just like they know you. (Just don't wear any Bama stuff )
Watch the band come down the hill. Yes, it's not much but it's our hill! The players come down the hill about 15 min prior to the band.
Go see Mike in his habitat. Run by the bookstore, get you some LSU stuff.
After the game, not sure what to tell you to do. There are lots of places to go that are nearby.
TJ Ribs is a fun place. Lots of tv's and beer. Food is decent. Not a far drive from Tiger Stadium.
Have an awesome time!
Thanks for the tips, based on all the advice I think we're gonna get there in the morning to really soak it all in!
So where does the band walk in so we can watch?
Another double

Siegen Inn from the website looks at least decent. In a nice part of town so safely not a dive. In a newer part of town so not as iffy as an equivalently priced hotel that's 40 years old. It basically looks like a slightly cheaper knock off of a Holiday Inn, The Chimes that people are recommending is basically a comfortable pub with tv's, food, and beer. Google it and you'll see. Lots of very reasonably priced, good food that will fill you up on that street like Five Guys and Chipotle, although the Louie's that was recommended has more local fare. Wear a hat. Drinking all day in the sun or whatever will wear you out.
Yeah you looks fine and pretty decent price for accommodation, happy to pay a little extra Uber to and from.
What are the local bars like with hats, are you allowed to wear them inside or you have to take them off? I wanna buy a really nice LSU hat, where's the best place in town for that?
Thanks so much for all your advice, really appreciate it

I met a few tiger fans along the way, met two blokes in Nashville who invited us to their tailgate and it was unreal so we spent most of the day there. I wore an LSU shirt because I'm a supporter. My mates dressed as normal but you will have no problem meeting people with your accent mate. Especially girls that's not an exaggeration especially in the smaller cities. My email address is deanjanda@hotmail.com if you have any questions mate I'm happy to help with whatever I can
Sounds awesome mate, sounds like you guys had a blast!
I might email you later on if I have any more questions, sounds like the locals have amazing hospitality, I can't wait!

hey andres, im an old rugger, and the lsu rugby team has a great tailgate, lots of food, possibly some lodging etc; if you're interested, shoot me an email kmalm13@gmail.com and we can definitely host y'all; are y'all rugby players?, didn't read through the entire thread
Hey thanks so much for the offer, would definitely love to hang out with you guys.
We don't play rugby ourselves, but know plenty about the sport, obviously fans of the Wallabies and we follow the Waratahs in Super Rugby
Would be great to catch up at your tailgate, interested to hear what the rugby scene is like in the states
