One other thing, are there places around campus for us to buy drinks if we need to or we have to bring them with us?
Yes, at the north gates there is:
The Chimes
Slinky's
Barcadia
Mahoney's
You can get drinks there and there's a convenience store right there where you can buy your own to carry. They relax open container laws on gameday as well so walking around with drinks is fine

Ok thanks, where in downtown do you recommend?

Literally anywhere but City Bar.

You may try to get in touch with this poster - Aussietigerfan. I believe he and some of his mates came to a game last year. His profile says he is in Sydney.

Thanks heaps man, got some reading to do!

Hey guys. Welcome. I'll leave the after game partying hints to others but I have a couple of other suggestions.
1. Decide on what game you want to see and get your hotel reservations as soon as you can. Baton Rouge fills up fast for game nights.
2. Get to the LSU campus early on game day; at least 4 hours before kickoff. There is a lot to see. Roam around the campus and take it all in.
3. LSU fans are open and welcoming. Let them know you are from Australia and you will have all the food and drink you can handle.
4. Check out the band coming into the stadium.
5. Get into the stadium early and enjoy the pre game excitement build up.
6. Understand that traffic after the game is pretty horrible, so rely on your new found LSU friends, to help keep you entertained until you can leave the campus.
7. And remember LSU fans never and I do mean NEVER run out of food and booze so enjoy.

Are you referring to Brad Wing and Jaimie Keehn?
LSU has another Aussie punter now, Josh Growden, from Sydney.

Thanks for the advice, is it offensive over there to use the word 'mate'?
Man you can use the word mate. Especially in your accent. People should know what you mean.
Posted on 5/4/16 at 8:22 pm to Andres
It is not offensive to use the word "mate". Some of these guys are just being homophobic. In the US, mate can mean your partner or spouse. I wouldn't want you to think all southern Americans are ignorant hicks.

Sounds good, thanks very much for the suggestions, we're gonna hang on campus for most of the day it seems!
Posted on 5/4/16 at 8:29 pm to Andres
Absolutely hang on campus all
day. Honestly, 4 hours is not enough. My favorite part of the day is to be set up by 6:00 AM and to sit and watch campus wake up. Stop by the Indian mounds, and if you see a table with 10-12 LSU helmets stop in for food and drink. I would say don't buy any drinks, it is a pain to carry them. You will be fed and liquored all day. Just take it all in.

Mate, you need to understand that some of these jerks here think that they are being funny & are giving you dumb advice. The campus is totally safe & tailgating starts as early as 7 in the morning in some areas. DO get your hotel reservations IMMEDIATELY as most sell out way in advance & most require a 2 night stay on LSU game days. I'd suggest not wearing any purple & gold LSU gear as there will be 100,000 LSU fans doing that. Wear something that will make clear you are from Australia. You will have no need to buy any booze or food wearing Aussie shirts. No glass containers are allowed, so make sure you use the plastic cups the tailgaters will give you. Take your time, as tailgating lasts all day long & a lot of areas have post game tailgating as well. Going downtown post game will take a while, a good hour or so, so stop & grab a drink or 4 while waiting. Reggie's is a college crowd bar if you are comfortable with that. When with a tailgating crew, ask them where is the best place to go post game. Do not mess with Baton Rouge Police if shite starts, but most will be helpful if you are sober & just asking for information. On a typical game day there will be over 100,000 on campus: to get an idea of what kind of tailgating you will see, google LSU TIGER FOOTBALL tailgating and you should get a good idea. If Baton Rouge hotels are full already, you might consider staying in New Orleans & driving in game day. It's about an hour plus drive on game day & it's easy to get to TIger Stadium off the interstate. October can be hot, so keep an eye on the weather forecasts & dress appropriately. Many wear shorts & t shirts, some wear jeans, some wear slacks. I'd suggest dress comfortable for potentially being in the sun for 6-7-9 hrs. Keep writing here & as the game approaches I am sure some here will give you specific directions as to where to meet them for their tailgating.

Just had a look, Reggies looks good, one of the reviews said "Typical college bar with people passing out at tables and girls at the bar falling in their heels."
Haha sounds good to me!
We wanna enjoy the local culture and mingle, cheap drinks always helps
2 dudes in their mid 30s would come off as huge creeps at Reggie's

If you want to bring cool gifts from down under Roo sacks would be awesome!

Yeah I get the feeling we need to get there as early as possible on game day and just take it all in!
Sounds like everyone is very generous with food and drinks, wanna try as much of the local product as possible

You can say "mate" but don't say "ta". It's highly offensive.
