I hate when people do things like this.
Had an atheist friend tell me this mess. (Like, you're atheist, so what's it to you?!)

Your body isn't any good in Heaven anyways.

Your friend was brave. Hope he's enjoying life in Heaven.

You should have asked them about what happens to people who are buried at sea...

I've changed from wanting the full deal at Arlington to a simple cremation and putting my ashes in the family grave by my infant daughter...

Wait...what? Your atheist friend told you that someone was going to hell if they cremated his body?

Speaking for the rest of my atheist brethren, I think he's doing it wrong...

For real though, what did this guy say about this topic?

I have. Pretty common amongst Baptists and some other Protestant and Pentecostal denominations.

Back when I cared to argue with ignorant folks over such things, I would used 2 approaches:

1. As someone already mentioned, your body decomposes anyway.

and if that didn't shut em up

2. If he's the Lord Almighty as you proclaim, he knows my heart, he can make me a new body if he really wants. Given those two things, seems like it would be pretty unholy to send me to hell for eternity for choosing cremation.

Kept taunting me. I believe in the rapture, and I said I really hope that it happens in my lifetime, when I'm like 95 and at the end of life anyways. (yeah, I know I'm asking for trouble saying that on this board, but whatever.)
Friend and his SO told me I won't be raptured or go to Heaven if I ever donate an organ, because then I'm not a whole person anymore. Kept trying to make me angry and argue with me. I asked where they came up with this, they said well you know you don't go to Heaven if you're cremated.
Argued for a while, then finally I said why are you even arguing this if you don't believe in any of it?!
Got a sarcastic reply. So I said "if the Rapture happens, I'm out of here, so if you need a kidney, don't call me just in case God takes the kidney too!" They never brought it up again.

Serious question, not trying to be a dick. What makes you believe this? I've studied the bible and can't find it in there.

You should have suggested that she would go to hell for not throwing herself on the next available funeral pyre.

On this board? Um...I think you give the board too much credit, or too little depending upon your point of view. I literally had NO IDEA how many people held beliefs like yours (I'm assuming but I'll go with Young Earther, anti-Evolution, Inerrant Bible, etc) until reading this board. I've lived my entire life in South Louisiana, and had no clue...

This one I'll answer...because you are an easy target. That doesn't make it sporting, and honestly I don;t even have the heart for it any more thanks to countless hours spent debating evolution and various scientific topics on this board...but someone with your world views can be a huge red flag to an atheist that just wants to argue.

In a general sense though, the fact that I may not believe any of what you do should in no way mean that I ought not have an opinion on it. Considering the religious make up the vast majority of the populace, and we are still ranging someone in the neighborhood or 40% of the American public who doesn't believe in biological evolution for example, I would be negligent not to care about your beliefs. Not because I care about what you believe, but because I care about where your beliefs alter your actions and then where they meet up with me. It's the same reason I care about Islamists even though I don't believe any of their stuff either.

C'mon man! I've got to go eat dinner, I ain't got time to be dragged into this now!!!

Plus...as soon as this discussion gets going and I'm in it, it'll be anchored with the quickness...

are they baptist? Catholic Church has no issues with cremation if that is the only method that can be afforded.

They did the same thing with purgatory. Wonder what belief they will change next?

Follow our rules that we change periodically as society progresses but still believe our 2000 year old crap that doesn't add up. O and disregard the fact that only gays and pedophiles sacrifice sex for a career.

Not usually, the go-to is usually some cryptic shite in Daniel or some other old testament stuff that's weird enough to see what you want to.

Well, that's just stupid. You only go to Hell if you have a tattoo.
