So we booked our flights and we fly up there on United and back on American. I am a little worried about our American flight because when you book directly through their site the cheapest flights do not include a checked bag. I assume it is not included and we will need to pay for that on our way back. I haven't checked with United yet.

Checked bags are almost never included in economy. $25 a bag. First Carry on is free though

United, American, nor Delta allow free checked baggage on their cheapest tickets, only carry-ons (Southwest is the only one with 2 free checked bags). That's why the smaller, low-budget airlines like Spirit and Frontier are gaining a lot more customers. Their fares are 1/2 the price and it's the same amount on a checked bag as the major US airlines.

Hey Cuse, always reads these threads but finally have a trip of my own to plan. Going to visit a friend in Los Angeles (flying out of New Orleans). Trying to fly out Thursday June 23rd and some back PM on Sunday June 26th. I did a quick search and best I found was $417 round trip with Delta. Do you see any better options?

How much luggage are you taking? It's $290 on Spirit which isn't bad if you do a carry-on and pay for a seat (I'm guessing $50 roundtrip?).

Edit: Found your best option. Fly there on American 6pm on the 23rd, back on United (redeye on the 27th). Both flights are nonstop and the total is $256
American flight to LAX, $129
United flight back to MSY, $139

We got lucky with some cheap weekend fares to LAX end of May. It was $187 RT on UA. Leave after work Friday. Come back midnight Sunday. Got some friends to go. I'm flying SW myself due to CP

The fare ware got all the way down to $147 roundtrip on either southwest or united back in early march. Flights were valid until early June LINK

Cuse, when should I look to book a trip from MSY to LAS in late July? It is a Fri-Sun trip, looks like the ticket is about 400 on SWA. Should I go ahead and book or wait and see if it falls? Thanks in advance.

Are you set on the nonstops on southwest? United has roundtrips for $298 roundtrip for July 29-Sunday July 31 (I'm guessing this is the weekend you mean?). The flight leaving sunday goes to LAX and is a redeye to New Orleans (get in early monday morning) Google flights

Weekend before it's $332 on united.

I'm not set on nonstops, but definitely not going to take a red eye.

Should I go ahead and book or do you think SWA will do one of their sales?

They're running a sale right now. In fact I just booked weekend RT to Atlanta in June. $98 (for 2)
