Nobody believes me but I remember a short period of time when Taco Bell offered AYCE when they had their .59,.69, and .79 menus.

This was in Lafayette back in the early 90s

Closest thing I remember to that would've been when they had the 39 cent "fiesta" menu in the early 90's, like 1990.

They had a Taco Bell across the street from my High School, and they had to shut that down REAL quick. As soon as school let out every day they had a line out the door with kids all buying one item each for 39 cents.

Wendy's in Mecca had an AYCE taco bar (and maybe other items) in the early '90's.

Taco Tico had a shop on Williams Blvd right next to Taco Bell and they were running a special for 3 tacos for a dollar. No coupon, you just had to write 3 tacos for a dollar on a piece of paper and they would honor it.

My cousin walked mistakenly into Taco Bell with his hand made coupon, handed to the cashier and she didn't know what to do with it. I think she thought he was a mute. He was a man of very few words.

We had to go next door to Taco Tico to get the deal.

Yep, I remember it well. Early 90's. It was .59, .79 and .99. It wasn't AYCE, it was just CHEAP eating!

For some reason, I think it was Wendy's that had the ayce taco/salad bar in the 90s. Maybe that's what's causing the confusion in op.

Nope, taco bell in Lafayette definitely had it...I remember it was anything off their 59 and 79 cent menus...you had to bring your receipt up everytime you wanted to order more.

ETA: or maybe it was just their 59 cent menu

Looks like you're right LINK

quote:

For a while around 1993-1994, the local Taco Bell locations offered this intriguing deal: All you can eat from the 59-cent menu for $2.99. This was around the time that Taco Bell produced and promoted the "59-79-99" menu. The bottom end of the scale contained the basics: crunchy taco, soft taco, bean burrito, chips and cheese, pintos and cheese, and cinnamon twists. For your $2.99, you got your choice of three of these items, ad infinitum.

All you can eat crunchy tacos for 2.99 is insane

I would have put them out of business. I can eat tacos forever. I never get full off of them even though I normally am not the type of person who eats a lot. I don't mind some pintos and cheese, too.
