Ever left your hometown and moved back years later

Left NWLA almost 15 years ago. We've built a good life where we are, but we're too far to visit more than once a year or so, which sucks badly especially now that there are nieces and nephews, and the children of lifelong friends that we wish we could be closer to...
Any of you folks move away and go back, or move away and stay away and are you happy with your decision?

I was in my career for a little bit, in fact it was in the summer of 2010. It was kind of a big deal. Well I moved down south to Florida with some friends (we're all in the same field of work) and we did really well. After my success I came back home to try to have some success for my home state in this field but I've turned into a big diva some would say. Unfollowing my business on Twitter, starting my media purge just to get back on later. In fact last year we almost were the best in our field and we were being carried by some no name Australian because I flat out disappeared. The award for the best in the field went to the guy going against me getting credit for my nonclutchness.

Was a military brat growing up, but about half the time my dad was stationed in San Antonio. Moved from SA to Biloxi, MS, back around 2002/03 and just moved back to San Antone for good last summer.
Couldn't be happier with my decision. Love this locale.

yup
left late 70's
returned about 30yrs later, mostly due to a foreclosure battle. had 2 residences for a few yrs
so, not only hometown but home...
I got to enjoy Mom til she stroked in 2014. then took care of her
funny thing was, as a teen I picked that house out of the local paper cuz it was what we could afford. it got completely rehabbed not a band aid after Dad passed in 2001, I had not returned for another 10yrs.

I grew up in Shreveport and moved away when I turned 18. Lived in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Houston, and out of the country. Moved back last year and couldn't be happier.

I've left, never moved back though. Honestly, every time I visit, I am instantly reminded on why I wanted to leave in the first place. A couple of days and I'm ready to go home.

Yes, and then moved away again about 4 months after I got there.

I just moved back to Austin after graduating college out of state. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else

I hope I never meet you. You sound like a pussy.

Yup. Grew up in Michigan. Left when 19 and came back in 1996 after 17 years in LA It just wasn't the same... The town was and the people were[snobby] but there were hardly anyone left that I grew up with. A nice town. No crime great roads, Grade "A" schools But the people are just stale and bland compared to people in Baton Rouge..... Would never go back to live...

Same. Only difference is it takes me 2 hours to remember why I don't like it there.

From Tampa area, I enlisted in the Air Force 16 years ago I've been to New Jersey, Florida (Cocoa Beach), Mississippi, and now Ohio and if I don't make E7 in the next 4 years I have to retire at 20 years. My wife and I are looking at moving back to Tampa to be near my family but I like the 4 seasons and I fell in love with Pittsburgh and really think we would love living there but my wife wants the kids to be close to their grandparents like she was growing up. It's a tough decision right now.

I came here to post almost exactly this. I may not stay where I currently am forever, but there's nothing that would get me to move back home.
