quote:i agree with this. Which is why i hate that cities can mandate private business from allowing legal acts like smoking.
I agree, which is why the bill is unnecessary. A private business owner should be able to deny service to whoever they want for whatever reason they want. Mississippi shouldn't have to pass a law to ensure this.

But the opposite isn't true
Arguably, it is, it just isn't written into the law.

the main issue with this bill is how it protects state employees
that is bullshite and unconstitutional
private business should be able to discriminate all they want, but not governments

how can they tell? sure the flamboyant gays stand out but they have some that blend in

if I were a whacko Christian who believed Jesus would want me to hate gays (which I'm not), there are simple solutions to this "problem". Just simply post a sign that reads:
"We are a Christian Business that would PREFER to not to serve same sex weddings. As we are required to by law; however, we will donate all proceeds from these functions to the Family Research Council so they can continue to fight for traditional marriage in government".
Again, I don't think this way and would proudly serve same sex couples if I were a business owner, but just saying there are ways around the law for those determined not to.

MS could care less, not like they are some hub for business. While I might not agree, seems like they are fitting the stereotype of being behind in the times.

Do you want a protest in front of your business, because that is how you get a protest in front of your business.

I think it just allows the state employee from opting out of performing their function. This seems to try to handle the clerk of court situation we saw in Kentucky. I agree with you though, if you don't want to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, don't work in the clerk of courts office. But, at the same time, you couldn't really say that about the clerk in Kentucky given the fact that gay marriage was illegal when she took the job.

Chances are it will increase business from one mindset and decrease business from the other, given the location that might not be detrimental.

instead of just finding a venue that will accept them

North Carolina just lost huge money from PayPal by enacting a similar law.

Private businesses should be able to discriminate for whatever reason they choose Singling out specific groups is wrong though It should be all or nothing
So...do they start screening customers who are divorced...or have cheated on their spouses...or have cheated on their taxes...or have stolen something...or have coveted their neighbor's goods...or have taken the name of the Lord in vain...etc., etc., etc.
Funny how "Christians" are singling out this one "sin", or behavior, to discriminate against. No problem selling to a murderer, I guess (long as he used a gun! ;) )
as someone said, do it ALL---BE A MAN! Or a woman, or a transgender...
Crap, it's too much, I quit.

As soon as the casinos threaten to close shop over this issue, the bill will be repealed with the quickness.

Yeah, Georgia wasn't going to be stupid lol. They realized the loss that would occur from the economic impact just isn't worth it.

Which rights of yours were changed or harmed by this?

From Parts B and C of section 3:
So you can fire or evict someone for being gay now. This terrible fricking law will be shot down in about five minutes, and more than likely they will make sexual orientation a protected class, just like sex or age.
quote:
(b) Makes any employment-related decision including, but not limited to, the decision whether or not to hire, terminate or discipline an individual whose conduct or religious beliefs are inconsistent with those of the religious organization, based upon or in a manner consistent with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction described in Section 2 of this act; or
(c) Makes any decision concerning the sale, rental, occupancy of, or terms and conditions of occupying a dwelling or other housing under its control, based upon or in a manner consistent with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction described in Section 2 of this act.
