I remember a Les Miles quote years ago is that a play would not be run in a game unless it has been run to precision no less than 14 times in practice. This philosophy that is not uncommon and is coaching 101. From watching Les coach for the last 10 years his definition of precision must be literal because can not see QB play, for the lion share of his tenure, be precise 14 straight times.

Or - wait for it, the team needs to know what it is doing before just winging it during a freaking game!

Shocker, LSU doesn't play sandlot football. Someone call the press!

Nice, so you are giving credit to Miles having four of the top offenses ever in the history of the LSU program.

I'll gladly give him credit for that, but he deserves as much blame for the let downs he's had throughout his tenure. This program should be playing in a NY6 bowl every year. We just have issues sustaining momentum.

There's plenty of company at the top of recruiting ranks that don't play in NY6 yearly. UGA, AU, UF in SEC, also USC, UM, UT.....

Sure, why not. Problem is in this day and age he SHOULD be racking up top offenses. LSU has never been known as an offensive juggernaut, but you need a balanced offense to make it to the top in this modern day. You don't think Mark Richt, Nick Saban, Dan Mullen, Gary Pinkel, Steve Spurrier, Hugh Freeze, Urban Meyer, Art Briles, Dabo Swinney, Gary Patterson, Chris Petersen, Mike Leach, Jimbo Fisher, Bret Beleima, etc, etc, etc, didn't rewrite record books at their current and/or previous schools this century? Geez man, it comes with the territory.

Miles has been the head man going on 12 years, and is heavily involved and meticulous in recruiting. His evaluation, management, development, and execution at the QB position is horrendous. Cam admitted that they do 60-70% run during their walkthroughs. What the f**k is his problem??? If execution is the problem, then why are we just now practicing passing more? It's because he almost got his arse kicked out last year.

He keeps hiring these past their prime, or one year wonder OCs to run this last century type of offense. Why do you think we can't get these top level pro style QBs or even decent 3 star pro style QBs? Because our offensive philosophy is a got damn mess along with our QB development. We only got Harris because he was from Louisiana. We let Dak Prescott go because we first wanted him at TE and he got an offer and committed to MSU as a QB recruit. Then his senior year we decided, oh damn wee should offer this kid as a QB. Absolutely atrocious foresight. Tey did similar to Lindsey Scott, who I think would have blown up at Syracuse under Dino Babers. He wasn't offered until we lost out on every single prospect we were going after. He did the opposite of Dak (who kept his word of commitment to MSU). I am glad he flipped because we almost again lost out on a great QB.

We've only had great passing offenses 3 of his 11 years (06, 07, 13). We've had decent/mediocre passing offenses 3 of his (05, 09, 11). That means that three of his better passing offenses were in his first 3 years. Only 3 times in the past 8 years have we had a pass offense that resembled at least being mediocre. Only once in the past 8 years have we had a great passing offense.

The killing part is that other teams' fans like UGA and FSU think what they had in 2014 and 2015 equaled no passing game or mediocre passing. I argue with them all the time that LSU likely wins the SEC West with the "no passing game" or "mediocre passing game" they had

UGA 2014 (UGA fan = no passing game)
67.4% 2600 yards 8.1 ypa 24 TDs 6 ints

FSU 2015 (FSU fan = mediocre passing game)
63% 3325 yards 7.9 ypa 22 TDs 9 ints

Of course it's Bama envy, everyone in the country should be...They've won how many Championships in the past 8 years? That Saban shite works. Hopefully, CLM will turn it around this year...hopefully

Difficult time??? He completely turned a slowly dying program into its former powerhouse status. This guy has won his division 4 of his 6 years as HC. He's won the conference 3 of the past 4 years including 3 consecutive years. He has a national championship and just brought in the #2 recruiting class in the country. He is top 3 in recruiting over the past 5 years behind only Saban and Meyer

They had to replace on of, if not the best, QB in the country. They had to replace one of the best WRs in the country, the best TE in the country, 4 of the 5 OL (including a 1st rounder), a slew of defensive players, and still finished with a 10 win season. He returns 18 starters, including all 11 on offense (but I think Deondre Francois will start at QB).

Oh, and the fans consider 63% passing 3300 passing yards 22 TDs and 9 ints as mediocre (talk to em, they'll tell ya).

Had he come to LSU and we got Dave Aranda, there is no doubt in my mind that LSU would be preseason favorites to win the national championship. He is a QB guru if I ever saw one. LSU went to complete shite at QB once all of his recruited guys were out of the program.

Since then he has sent 3 QBs to the first round and 2 of them were his 5 star #1 dual threat QB recruits. He recruited the #3 pro style QB in 2015, the #4 pro style QB in 2016, and just got a commitment from the #7 pro style QB in the 2017 class. Two of his other QBs that have transferred, did pretty well at other schools. Clint Trickett posted 67% 3300 yards 7.8 ypa and 18 TDs (19 total, and in only 11 games) as a senior at WVU and Coker posted 67% 3100 yards 7.9 ypa and 21 pass TDs (23 total) as a senior at Bama. Oh, and Coker won a national champioship. Another one of his recruited QBs went to JUCO and just transferred to Auburn and is likely to start this year. He's like Nick Marshall, but faster.

Jimbo Fisher knows QBs like the back of his got damn hands and LSU would have been freaking set with him. If Miles doesn't turn it around this year, LSU missed out on the best opportunity to step up into the elite category. We likely won't see a chance like that again for a long arse time. Herman would be the only other option, but I believe he'd wait til one of the bigger Texas jobs opened up.

I want Miles to make LSU's 2015 late season debacle, on and off the field, a moot point with winning a championship this year, but I have no faith in him even modernizing the passing game.

Jamarcus Russell started his first season as a redshirt sophomore and was an NFL draft pick.
Matt Flynn started his first season as a redshirt senior and was an NFL draft pick.
Zach Mettenberger started his first season as a redshirt junior and was an NFL draft pick.

Jarrett Lee started his first season as a redshirt freshman and went undrafted.
Jordan Jefferson started his first season as a true sophomore and went undrafted.
Anthony Jennings started his first season as a true sophomore and will transfer. Feel free to speculate as to his NFL future.

Like it or not, this isn't all about Miles. There's a reason that he lets some quarterbacks air it out and others are limited by the playcalling. Now I will say that the recruiting and retention of quarterbacks has been atrocious between 2007 and 2014, but that's a discussion for another day.

I hope you're wrong, but he has proven time and again that not much will actually change.

It's kind of funny that one crowd says he's got Alleva by the balls and he will do what he wants, but I am of the opinion that it really is do or die for Les this year. I think he knows it, and I hope he truly tries to do everything he can to destroy and demoralize every opponent we face.

I know, it's wishful thinking . . .

You must have neve played football. In practice the scout team runs the other teams offense or defense so if a play doesn't work against the scout team why would it run against the other teams best 11 guys.

You hit the nail on the head Cincy. Just don't try to tell all these negatives that. The only football they know is from playing Madden.

Do you not understand the problem? Let me show you

Saban brung in Jimbo Fisher. Fisher recruited Russell and Flynn, and Perriloux who was going to kill it at LSU before he decided to be stupid.

Once Fisher's QB recruits were gone and Saban's OC moved on, we saw Les Miles with only what he brought into the program from the high school ranks. Zach Mettenberger went to UGA and played JUCO. Most of the guess work was taken out of his hands. All he had to do was get the guy here. Still, it took Mett until he was a 5th year senior with two ridiculous WRs in their 3rd years, to have a productive passing season.

- His evaluation of high school QBs is atrocious and it has been for years throughout several OCs.

- His evaluation of OCs is horrendous. They are either too old and stuck in the past, or one hit wonders, or both.

- His philosophy that says 60-70% of the focus of walkthroughs should be on running the football, shows that execution of the passing game is second to running the football.

If you dont put great support in the passing during practice, if you don't evaluate talent correctly, if you don't play like you want to improve the passing game, then you will forever suffer at passing the ball.

Oh NOW he gets it after over a decade on the job??? We'll see.

I'm not saying less miles is an offensive genius, and his playcalling definitely isn't revolutionary, but to hate on the man because he only wants to run the plays that work is pretty ridiculous.this isn't ncaa football 14 where you can run the pistol one game, spread the next, pro style, then the wishbone and be 4-0 after those games lol
