Well if the Boomers were born starting in 1945, then boomers are 45-65 and X is 65-85. Obviously there is a blending towards the last 5 years. Kids born in 81-85 didn't have the same experience as I did being born in 71 and cognizant during the Reagan years.

But aren't baby boomers defined as the baby boom that occurred after WW2? A 20 year increment would be 1965 or so.

Yeah 1965 seems like a more accurate starting year to me. I was born in '68 and had friends with older siblings who graduated in the late Seventies (they were born in the early Sixties) and they seemed very different to me than kids who graduated in the early to mid Eighties. There was a big cultural change from the Seventies to the Eighties.

There was so much advancement in technology when we were young. Some 80s babies remember the time before computers and cell phones, some grew up with it. That's why I always feel we don't belong to either genx or millenials.

80s to 90s was maybe even a bigger cultural change tech-wise. Kids in the 90s grew up with technology being omnipresent. They've carried their own cell phones since elementary school.

I was born in 79 so I'm Gen X, but I don't consider anyone born from 80-85 to be Millenials. Anyone born after 86ish is.

The dividing line for Millennials should probably around the time the personal computer started coming about. Of course the millennial would say when the Macintosh was introduced.
I was born in '77 and I'm definitely a tweener. I've read where there's thinking that there's a lost generation between the late 70's and late 80's where kids born in that 10 year period came up in an environment of complete change.
Too young to have experienced the coke crazed 80's but were old enough to remember growing up in an unplugged era, too old now to have been educated for the new digital economy and the world they were being prepared for disappeared.
The acceptance and usage of technology is typically what separates a tweener from being more Gen X, Gen Z, or a millennial.

The biggest change from my experience from the Seventies to the Eighties was socially and politically. I didn't notice the technological changes that much because it had not really made a huge impact on the American household yet with regards to computers. Just video games and Betamax/VCR maybe. There was a big change musically. The Eighties were a much more optimistic decade. It changed when Reagan took office. I would agree with the timeline for Millennials. My sister in law and brother in law were born in '82 and '83 and they seem more like Xers to me.

Some of your stuff is part of many generations. You didn't have a three wheeler by chance, cuz that's an automatic admit to gen x, that and Atari 2600 or intellevision for the rich kids.

Born in 84 and certainly not a millennial. You'll find very few millennial traits in anyone born before 85.
