Also, don't go if you're poor. I came from a middle class family and felt pretty poor there. Everyone I knew was driving Escalades, Benz's, brand new F-250's and Range Rovers.
I hear ya! When I go visit and park my F-150 Lariat in the garage by my daughters dorm I have to walk past BMW's, Mercedes, Range Rovers, Porches, and now a Lamborghini's on the way out. My daughter has a 2006 Mustang Convertible and doesn't really care; she wants me to buy a new truck and give her mine. I raised her right.

don't you basically have to be top 10 percent to get into A&M and UT anyways?
Used to be if you were in the top 10% of your Texas HS graduating class you were automatically admitted to UT and aTm. Recently, UT went to a floating percentage that is usually the top 7% to 8% which equals a total of 75% of their admissions. So UT has 25% of admissions that are more subjective.

That's one of the big reasons I went there.
That, and not having to be too far away from your mom.

This is how it works.

Oh man... no, not at all.

My niece is on scholarship at Baylor. She's transferring to Rice (I think). She said its boring as hell and she wants to be closer to her dad's deer lease in Laredo. She said Baylor isn't worth it to miss the outdoor things she enjoys. Especially since she can go to school anywhere.

Yeah I knew it was pretty much a longshot to get into either A&M and UT without being top percentile in your graduating class.

Thanks double d. IYO, how overwhelming is the Baptist thing for a non-southern, other-religion female student?
I don't think it is overwhelming at all. Chapel is more of a general type worship/morality type thing; lots of musical acts and performances. I watched it on line a few times (they sent a link to the live broadcast to the parents network) and it was actually pretty good. We are Catholic and my daughter said they never push Baptist on you. The religion classes she took were more history of world religion type things.

CenTex town/City with growing suburbs. And developing an identity.
Waco, wont be a live music capitol, Im not saying that. But the location and size and pending growth are similar.
and 15 years ago there wasn't shite to do in Waco the area actually has some venues for entertainment dollars similar to what was happening in Austin when Willie came back
biggest difference is the demographics in CenTex are RADICALLY different since the 70's

The backyard has had some solid concerts recently. Sam Riggs, Deryl Dodd, William Clark Green. While I agree it won't became some Texas Country Mecca or anything, it's gotten loads better over the years.

So transfer right into the middle of a concrete jungle.
Understand if it puts her closer to her dad's deer lease though.

Great! So shall we add San Marcos to the list as well?
And Waco will never come close to the size Austin is now, or expected to be in about 10 years.
Also, Waco has no entertainment other than Baylor sports and motorcycle gang shootouts, so...

Gotta hunt baw.
One of the perks was having my fam's ranch right there.
Also some pretty good fishing on Lake Waco, surprisingly.
