I turned left onto Brazos from Elgin when I didn't see the "NO TURNS" sign underneath the traffic light that is roughly 30x12. The sign is significantly smaller than mandated by the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which states the minimum size is 36x36. LINK-(page 46 Movement Prohibition sign)

Anyone have any experience fighting a traffic ticket in Houston? Any idea if this would be enough to contest the ticket?

If you feel spending hours upon hours at the courthouse contesting your $200 ticket is a cost effective use of your time, then go for it.

If you have evidence, you may win, I won as a young 20 something in BR many years ago, but you'll never get that 7 hours of your life back.

If you're sure it's not at least 36x36 I'd fight it. But you better be certain it's too small and that you're looking at the right page in the MUTCD (I didn't click your link)

Go have a chat with the city council. Although they are all full of shite, maybe one of them will have their staff look into the sizes of the signs.

Pretty sure all the No Turn signs here are rectangle (like you've claimed) so how are they mandated to be 36 x 36?

I am unfamiliar with any typical regulatory sign with an oddball dimension like 30x12.....I'm sure theres one in the MUTCD/TMUTCD but it'll be an off application.

Unless you got in a bucket truck and measured it, I'd be careful spouting off to a judge or clerk.

Just pay the fine and move along.

So it's your argument that a sign is invalid if it's not the exact size? It's a decent argument but if the sign is still visible I could see a judge still ruling against you. Those size guidelines are likely regulatory and are not meant to invalidate any visible sign solely for size.

Also, in my experience Houston is a bitch for tickets. Totally worse than Louisiana.

I just had Houston Traffic court jury duty last week. didn't get picked, but when they brought us in to ask the questions I figured the guy was guilty already.
