Former LSU running back Hokie Gajan has setback in his fight with cancer

Be thankful for each day....

Hokie starred as a running back at LSU and for four seasons with the New Orleans Saints but he never sought the spotlight. Even in his wildly successful career as a color analyst for the Saints Radio Network, he's never been comfortable as the center of attention.
He's in the battle of his life with a rare form of cancer called liposarcoma. He was diagnosed with the disease last fall and was sidelined from his color analyst gig on Saints games for a few weeks to undergo treatment. This is a devil of a disease. The cancer forms in deep soft tissue cells, most often in the limbs or abdomen, and often spreads to other parts of the body.
A tumor in Hokie's thigh caused his femur bone to fracture on Saturday, forcing him to undergo emergency surgery. He's still in the hospital recovering and will be wheelchair-bound for a while until he can get back on his feet.
"I'm scared, I'm nervous, certainly uncertain, but I can promise you this, you know I'm not going to sit around here now and mope about it," Hokie said in his GoFundMe page. "No. 1, because I don't really know where this thing is heading."

I wish him the best.
Is this common practice to have a gofundme page?

For cancer patients yes. I had one when I was first diagnosed. The cost of cancer treatment is just awful and I am fortunate enough to have pretty damn good insurance.

Hokie has to be on everyone's all name team. One of my favorite Tigers and one hell of a blocker for the Saints.

Can still see him rambling 48 yards down the sideline in Oxford to beat the Black Bears. A great Tiger & a great Saint but a better person !

Hokie you are the man , Hokie is not brought up here very often but he was one of the greats here at LSU,I don't remember his numbers but he was a power runner who motored over people , a first down, red zone machine ! maybe you other veterans can add on and tell the yougn'ns about him !

Man... That sucks. Didn't even know he was sick. :prayerssent:
And this.
These things annoy the frick out of me... He's done well for himself. Has had a stable job for at least quite some time.. Why in the hell are people more than likely in a far far more precarious financial situation paying his bills? Such an odd phenomenon....

Do you know how fast cancer can brake even the very well off? WOW, you must be under 25 or have no family.
