I'm so bad at golf that just hitting the fricking green on a par 3 is cause for celebration.

The old LSU course..got within 8 inches

English Turn, hole #8 ..hit a bad shot that got some incredible bounces and rolled within 12" of the hole...it was a scramble and guess what, i didn't get closest to the hole..cheatin'bastards

Nearly 40 years of golf it took me to get my first one in April 2011.
Exactly 10 days later I got my second one.

Have had two, but better story of a friend's (we'll call him Sonny) first and only at age 82 back in late 90's. I played every weekend with Sonny's group that he had founded.

Set the stage here...Sonny (now deceased) claimed to be an "Olympian" back in the 30's. All in this golf group either carried their bags or walked with a cart which he did. One slightly cool early spring day on #15 (118 yd) at Webb Memorial in Baton Rouge, Sonny once a solid golfer and with some 70 years playing, takes his 3-wood out and proceeds to "skull" his tee shot. For non-golfers "skull" is a term used to describe the club face first contacting the ball at the equator or above causing an awful low shot that generally rolls toward its intended target.

The ball, rolling and bouncing on hard, dry, no grass turf begins to slow as it starts to ascend the inclined green. The pin is maybe 10' above the front edge of the green. Ball now on the green slowly moves forward toward the pin.

Now, up until this time the rest of us are just casually watching. We're aware of Sonny's sensitivity to hitting a bad shot, but something is different this time, that being the ball rolls into the hole! Did I mention he couldn't see too well, he didn't believe us when we told him it went in. He arrived at the hole, reached down, picked ball up out of the cup, turned to us and in a sort of nonchalant exhausted tone declared "Well shite, the beer's on me".

Never enjoyed a day of golf more than having been there to share and witness firsthand that moment of unadulterated joy in that old gentleman's life!

PS: Have never met anyone that could put away more beer in a single sitting either!

never had a hole in 1, but did have an albatross @ Squirrel Run. Hit tee shot off to right then hit a high cut 5 iron from about 225 out (downwind) and it bounced twice then rolled in!

PW
Webble Beach
15th hole

Bladed the shite out of it.... Flew like a scalded dog 5 feet off the ground straight for the pin.... Smacked it dead center and fell behind the cup.

I turned to my playing partners to laugh at my ugly tap-in birdie when they suddenly three their hands up and yelled.

I never saw it roll in.

Been playing regularly for about 9 years, never been inside a foot that I can remember.

ETA: except the day I pulled a tee shot and decided to hit another for for shits and giggs, made contact, started walking to the cart and told bandit "that's in". It was about a 8 inches but wouldn't have counted

Never had one but I've seen five. Two were back to back. Playing one day in a tournament and got backed up. Final shot of group in front of us was a hole in one and then first man up in our group hit it in.

7 iron from 155 yards out was the closest I've been. ball stopped about 8" from the hole.

Unless you count a chip in from about 40 yards at LSU's practice facility. Hole'd one out from the tee box there one evening with my roommate. Bought him a drink at Brewbacher's after

I've had 3:

First: 125 yd, PW, Gettysvue CC: playing with my HS golf coach, two-tiered green. Ball hit 10 ft short of pin, one hopped and rolled into the cup.

Second: 172 yd, 6 iron, Pine Lakes Golf Course: Playing in intramural's at UT Jr yr. Ball tracked the pin the entire shot, hit 3 inches to the right beyond the pin and spun back into the hole.

Third: 105 yd SW, Myrtle Beach Par 3 course, hit the pin on the fly and dropped in.

Had all three of them in a 5 yr span and haven't had one since... 12 yrs and counting.

Closest I've ever been was this shot on #3 at Ellendale. Par 3 was playing around 140 and I hit 8 iron.

I doubt I'll ever get one but still trying. I've had 2 Dbl Eagles but I think my closest Ace is probably 8-10" away. Burned the cup and pin several times but those always end up feet away.

Club - 9 iron

Hole - Number 9 at Lakota Canyon Ranch in Colorado

Yardage - 165

Drinks After - Just my buddy and me on the course. It was in the middle of the week.

It's a difficult hole to stick your ball on the green. It was a perfect shot and the hole placement was in just the right spot that day. Because it was an elevated tee the ball was in the air for what seemed like forever. My buddy and me were talking about the shot before it even hit the green. Landed the shot short and left and the grade of the green trickled it right into the hole.

Magazine write-up on the hole.

quote:

Bogey Beware: The 9th hole at Lakota is a diabolical little hole that can ruin a good front nine score. A large ravine rests right of the hole and the left side of the hole features a hill that kicks balls toward that same ravine. If you miss the green you will almost surely score no better than a bogey and there is a good chance you will have lost a ball in the process.

One of the first times I ever played, I got one. My dad nearly had a heart attack and signed me up for lessons that day. Never done it since
