Draft Consensus 1st & 2nd Rd

Is it just me or does there seem to be one of the strongest consensus here about the first pick in a few years...
*most prefer a pass rusher 1st since the DTs are so deep. Lawson seems to be the most logical fit for value and need. One of the most mocked to NOLA. Spence would be welcomed if he passes the front office character test.
*But most would not be disappointed with a DT first. The favorites for value would be Ashawn Robinson or Rankins.
*most would like to snap up Miles Jack IF available. Jaylon Smith seems more like a stretch pick at 12 if he doesn't play until 2017.
*If pass rusher first, there might be an alltime record of 1st Rd talent DTs that would available at #47: Reed, Clark, Washington, Butler, etc
Yea or nay?

I agree wholeheartedly! The DT talent is rediculously deep in this class. I also agree that Lawson should be the pick if available.....high character guy, high motor. The D-line HAS TO BE THE PRIORITY in this draft. A DE and DT should be the priority with the first two picks....then go BPA from there.

Earlier today, old-new Philadelphia G.M. Howie Roseman created a few headlines around the NFL media when he suggested that one of the reasons the Eagles traded veteran CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiki Alonso to Miami and the 13th pick in this year’s draft for the 8th pick overall was that the Eagles feel “there is a big dropoff after 10 players” this year. Of course, Roseman could just be rationalizing a tad to justify the trade, however, it does seem to confirm some of the rumblings we are hearing from around the league about the upcoming draft
In particular, it appears there is an emerging sense around the league that that QBs Carson Wentz of North Dakota State and Cal’s Jared Goff, Ohio State RB Zeke Elliott, Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil, Ohio State DE Joey Bosa, Oregon 5T-DE DeForest Buckner, UCLA LB Myles Jack and Florida State DB Jalen Ramsey are consensus top ten prospects for this year’s draft. It also appears that there are a couple of other guys in Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves and Notre Dame OT Ronnie Stanley who get top ten grades from most teams. That’s ten.
Of course, there are teams out there that have other players ranked in the top ten on their value boards. One hears, for example, that some teams have
Louisville DT Sheldon Rankins that high. Same for Alabama DT A’Shawn Robinson and Ole Miss WR Laquan Treadwell. For the most part, though, get by those first ten guys and it looks like something of a mish-mash. Indeed, one could make the case that in addition to DTs Rankins and Robinson, DTs Jarran Reed of Alabama and Baylor’s Andrew Billings could get some top 15 consideration. Same for Clemson DE Sahq Lawson, LBs Darron Lee of Ohio State and Reggie Ragland of Alabama, not to mention injured Notre Dame star Jaylon Smith, any of risimg CBs Eli Apple of Ohio State, Mackensie Alexanader of Clemson and Will Jackson of Houston, Memphis QB Paxton Lynch, Big Ten OTs Jack Conklin of Michigan State and rangy Taylor Decker of Ohio State and WR Corey Coleman of Baylor, especially if he runs really well at his pro day later this week. At the same time, though, there’s no real guarantee that any of the above are locks to be taken even in the first 20-25 picks. Should be an intriguing next 45 days or so.

As long as we go BDPA in the front 7 the first 2 rounds I will be happy with the draft.
I have the players I personally prefer however I will support the franchise as long as they dont go retarded and draft a WR real early or something that will only piss me off.

I'd throw in an athlectic outside LB into the mix as well, Debo's pro day was pretty enticing, and if Jaylon Smith is around at our 2nd pick, I'd strongly consider him as well. I agree DE and DTackle are more important, but having athletic LB's would be nice.

I do not understand the logic here. Yes, the DT position is deep; however, there is a reason some of those guys are the top 3-5 in the DT class. I think that speaks volumes, and if they believe that a DT is the BPA over a DE, they should grab DT . Even if that means going DT & DT in the 1st & 2nd round.
Yes, this defense needs a lot of help rushing the passer; however, I think the team would be better served securing the middle of that D for the next 10-12 years. We have pass rushers now, they just can't get to the QB bc they are either being constantly doubles (Cam) or the QB has all day to step-up in the pocket to avoid the rush.

I'm not totally against going DT/DT if that's where the value is. Its not ideal at all, but if you hit on both the interior line goes a LONG way to both freeing up the DEs to rush and allowing the LBs to roam.

I haven't been keeping up with the draft too much this year but I have a question. Is Laquan projected to be taken in the top 11? If not, why aren't we making him our top priority? The guy is a freak of nature.

Um.....because we have a top 5 passing offense, and a historically bad defense?

Lee with the 1st and Debo with 2nd. DL is deep this year. The LB core would be yiung and fast with Anthony from last year. Grab BPA out of DT and DE in 3 and 4. With the deoth at DL you are getting 2nd or early 3rd qualiry in the 4th. Let the FO do what they do on late round picks.

Let it go. People need to stop with this. The team needs players in rounds 1-3 who can step in & play right away. This guy may never be the same again. This isn't your average ACL tear like some keep making it out to be.

Unfortunately, the worst case scenario materialize when news of ankle, knee and nerve damage resonated throughout the combine’s media room. I'm truly concerned about Smith’s injury. It happened much later in the season and then we’re talking about multiple injuries all in one,” Zierlein noted.

barring a Wentz/Goff or Myles Jack freefall, it's A'Shawn in the first
and Le'Raven Clark in the 2nd....
We'll have Craig Robertson sign on Thursday.
Rashard Higgins in the 3rd
Jayron Kearse in the 4th
things are shaping up sons.

I highly doubt we draft 2 olb's in rounds 1 & 2. Even drafting 1 olb in those rounds is a little questionable given our dire need for legit D-linemen & an OG. Next year would be a perfect year to go olb early though.
