Found this thread and wanted to check out if VUE was the way out of Directv for me. My experience was terrible i have 2 fire TV's and downloaded the app. I couldn't even get it to play kept getting Error Code [1014]. Probably had something to do with the zip code that was initially given to me during sign up which was wrong so i changed it to where i have always been. Finally got a hold to a customer rep. and he told me that playstation was aware of this problem and many people had the same problem as me. I seemed to know more about the problem than him by just reading the message boards on the playstation website. He said he was sorry that until they come up with a solution there wasn't anything they could do. I asked that if my free trial would carry over until they could fix the issue at hand and he couldn't even give me an answer on that. So needless to say i don't think i will be switching to VUE anytime soon.

I've had the same issue only it was code [1013]. Vue support didn't really know what the problem was. So after fighting with it for a month off and on I've decided to give up on it.

People on the subreddit for it are saying that they may be resolving this issue

To be fair..they needed to have this shite taken care of BEFORE the national roll out.

Thousands of people have a terrible first impression of Vue.. Sling is beefing up it's content and Direct TV is coming out with their service in a few months.

Not a good look

Not too much. Just that there are 3 levels of service, with no indication of what is included and what the prices are.

No..they are still probably making deals as we speak.

Doesn't matter..as long as the price is under $50 a month, it'll steal customers from Sling TV and Vue, which will force their hand to better their product.

Can't believe we were stuck with Sling TV's shitty line-up and service for a year

The beauty of vue is it's cheap and has no contract, I'm not loyal to any company so if something better comes along I'll jump on it.

Right now vue blows everything out of the water so I'll stick with them.

Yeah I'm not having any issues with Vue. I had my first month for free, actually.

I'm really enjoying the product..and I love the DVR functionality

Same here. My only concern is price increases. They get a bunch of people on board and all of a sudden the price goes up. Or DTV and sling beef up and vue matches but all three prices keep increasing. Then none of us are saving money regardless of which you choose.

I'm concerned about that too. The current state of television is a perverse market, and it will likely extend to OTT streaming services, too. Think about it... competition is supposed to drive prices down, right? And if content owners sold direct to consumers, this would probably happen. But they don't. Instead, they prefer to let others compete for the right to distribute their content. So what happens? The HIGH bidder wins. Competition drives prices UP, and then the other services have to match if they want the content (and they do). And channel bundling amplifies the problem.

Bingo. So do we end up eventually with streaming becoming the new thing but just as expensive as having several boxes in the house? I hope it doesn't go this way, but I can definitely see it.

It probably will. Moving the channel bundle from cable to OTT services doesn't address the cost problem.

I look at the current "movement" as phase 1, where we force the TV provider to separate from the delivery mechanism. This is necessary for the next phase, where we break apart the channel bundles. But phase 2 won't happen until the cost of streaming gets as out of hand as the cost of cable, and then we are forced to decide on the content we really want rather than looking for the best perceived value. I mean, look at how many people prefer Vue over Sling, even though it's 50% more expensive at the minimum. While the number of simultaneous streams and general quality of the service can account for some of that, a part of it is undoubtedly that Vue costs less per channel. We need to realize that we are only one person (or one family), and there's only so much content we can watch.

Until then, content owners like bundles because they all benefit from more viewers. TV providers like bundles because they attract more customers. And consumers like bundles because of the perceived value. But the end result is inevitably higher prices. This can't change until we realize that the real value doesn't match our perception.

So I think we have to go through this first phase and deal with the rising prices all over again. Then, when we reach that breaking point again, some new streaming services will have to pop up or the existing ones will have to evolve to offer channels a la carte (or the content owners themselves will finally move to direct to consumer models like HBO/CBS/etc.).

We just started using vue on PS3 in den. I like it so far but don't like using the PS controller as a remote. Was thinking about getting a fire stick for the den and moving the PS3 to the master bedroom (we rarely watch tv in there) but after skimming through this thread, looks like fire stick interface isn't as good as PS3. But it looks like maybe fire tv is better than the stick. But is fire tv better than PS3? We're going to get another device for the bedroom regardless so I need to decide whether to get fire tv for den and move PS3 to bedroom or keep PS3 in den and get a good universal remote.

Fire TV box is on par with PS4...and PS3 is light years behind the PS4.

So to answer your question, Fire TV box is WAY better than the PS3

Could I use the fire tv remote to turn my tv on and off or would I still need to use the tv remote for power? And what about volume?

You would need another remote to control the Volume and to turn the TV off.

You can set your CEC Settings on your tv, which would turn your TV on when you press your Fire TV button. I have my CEC settings set up for my PS4 and Fire TV..it's really nice.

There's no volume on a fire tv remote. Some TV's have functionality that you can let the Fire TV remote have some control over the TV. Mine of course did not. I opted to get a $60 Harmony remote and that handles everything. Actually even controls some of my lights and my Nest thermostat.

Edit: damn you for beating me to it Vermilion. You got an auto refresh on this thread!?
