Someone has recently made me an offer to work for them, and mentioned the possibility of a signing bonus. I have never received such a thing, but was curious as to how much these bonuses are. Making sure I do not get low balled.
Thanks

You will probably be allowed to bring home one combo meal after your first shift but I doubt they let you super size it.

Middle class job? Assuming $60-80K a yar?
I would say expect $2k-$5k.
Out of college I got a $1,500 signing bonus.

Reminds me of when I was in high school I worked for Pizza Hut and they gave you a free personal size pizza after you worked a shift, but they had sooo many rules it was funny, had to work for so many hours, could only put certain toppings on it, could not eat it there, etc.....nobody followed them

This is pretty accurate. Be prepared to be disappointed that you will only see a little more than half of the bonus amount after the fed and state take their share.

The owner wants to get into a certain industry and cannot do that without someone that has certifications that I currently hold. Also, there are very few people who do what I do. Typically to hire someone in my field, an owner would have to persuade someone from another company, or relocate someone from out of state.

You are correct in your assumption, and thank you for the legitimate response.

You will actually see a lot more than this, bonuses do not get taxed at a higher rate, but the payroll software may with hold at a higher rate because it thinks you are making that much each pay period, in which case you will get it refunded when you file a return

What?
It is income and taxed at the same rate as regular income.

Depends on the industry and competition

Otherwise the software thinks that amount repeats every payroll and withholds using higher tax tables.
