So...why are so many people down on CBB and the tournament?

Add to this "top ten" and rank them. These are some theories I've heard, and some of my own opinions:

1. one-and-done players, and some cases entire teams
2. the death of the Big East
3. blatant mockery of amateurism and college athletics
4. filling out brackets jumped the shark--now your mama fills out a bracket
5. people fill out 10 different brackets and claim that they "called" a major upset when they had it on one of the 10 brackets
6. television hype/overanalysis--"Bracketology," turning Joe Lunardi into the Mel Kiper of basketball, and 2-hour tournament specials
7. you don't know the players anymore--It's just a handful of name-brand teams winning year-in/year-out with a couple of Cinderellas thrown in the mix
8. season starts too early now, and with the Super Bowl pushed back into Feburary, many people only pay attention to the regular season for a couple of weeks
9. "First Four," "play-in games," or whatever the Hell they're calling it this year--North Carolina A&T or whoever has to fly to Dayton to play on Tuesday and then fly to San Antonio the next day to lose by 38 to Kansas 2 days later
10. Final Fours and usually Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight in football stadiums instead of arenas

The Big East is still alive and thriving.

I think the rule changes have hurt the game, the differing styles of play allowed for some great games. Plus the new hardship rule changes have broken teams up, so major teams are constantly changing year to year and you can not emotionally invest as a casual fan.

I wish CBB was more like CFB in this regard.

I can easily keep up with the stars of CFB and their teams, as they become familiar and memorable.

With all these one and done players, I feel like the quality of the game isn't as good as it could be.

I'm not sure how this would equate to people being down on the tournament. That's a really hipster mindset to have..."I was filling out brackets before it was cool, now that everyone is doing it I don't like it anymore"

The CBB hate is also overstated a bit on this board because it's a majority SEC fans

The NBA product is too good right now to waste time watching CBB. Unlike CFB, it doesn't get a whole day to itself insulated from the pro game.

If you like basketball, there isn't much reason to spend time watching CBB.

I think the CBB can improve their product 10-fold if they can get rid of the one and done. Someone else mentioned in this thread about changing it to a CFB method where they have to stay at least 2 years. The problem that I see is these potential top tier talent guys would rather sit on the bench in the NBA for 3 seasons, getting paid ridiculous amount of money then stay in college for another couple of years. The NBA product would benefit from keeping players in CBB for another year as well as these guys tone their skills.

This year seems to me to be an off year because of some of the crappy seeds that the committee threw out there. Kentucky should NOT be a #4 seed behind a #3 seed A&M who they beat no more than 2 hours before the brackets announced. It's apparent that they had already had these brackets created and just waiting for the 2-hour special. Duke shouldn't be a #4 seed but because they're DUKE they got a favor this year. The bracket that Kentucky in is ridiculous while the committee showed favoritism to Michigan State and basically handing them an Elite 8 visit (in Chicago, BTW). Having Virginia as a #1 seed is a JOKE. They didn't even win their freaking conference tournament.

I'm still excited as hell to watch but this year definitely seems like an off-year.

The tourney is still super fun, but college basketball as a whole has gone way, way downhill from the 80's and 90's.

related items.

one and done do not know the game well. they are merely superior athletes.
it is bad for the NBA too.

no more senior laden major schools with depth and experience and team play based on years of working on their games.
