Don't blame Simmons for the season

When we could not figure out how to break down a 2-3 zone against college of Charleston that's when I knew our coach wasn't the guy who could handle this much talent on one team. I really believe everyone on the team besides Hornsby and few other guys gave up on listening to Johnny jones. If you go back and look consistently at our games and we were presented with the zone we didn't know what to or how to beat it. A middle school coach could figure that out. I hope blakeney and TQ comes back but if they don't I do not blame them.

Simmons is far from blame free but yeah most agree JJ gets the blame for for this year

I don't blame 17/18 year old kids. Whether he was over rated or not doesn't matter. You have to blame the adults in charge of the situation. The entire staff is to blame.

BS wanted to play on the perimeter. no coach in the country would have played him on the outside that much unless the kid refused to play inside. You can say JJ sucks or the entire coaching staff sucks but I would be willing to bet they all thought he should play more inside but BS didn't want to...the problem is the coaches should have benched his arse.
They allowed BS to be above the team and we saw how that turned out. I bet we will be better off without him.

He's not 17 or 18. He had a personal camera crew that followed him around all year. And when he was interviewed, it was pretty likely that he'd say he is the best player in college basketball. If someone wants to criticize him, go for it

This has merit.
Simmons wants to be Lebron. Has said as much. So he decided to play in a Lebron forward-guard style, and no one stopped him.
This was basically a "practice becoming Lebron" season for Ben. Not sure he got too far on that goal, but that was what he wanted IMO.

I have stayed out of this subject all season but I had to back you up on this one. BS is still a highly talented guy but you could sense some stress on this team that seemed to originate from the roles everyone played to accommodate him... I think you were spot on here. JMHO

Every other coach in the nation would have put together a cohesive, half-court motion offense with great spacing to create driving lanes for Simmons and his teammates. Instead, Jones simply left everyone to their own devises and it did nothing but create congestion and indecision. Rarely was there any action or screening away from the ball. On ball screens were set with no apparent purpose or plan. When teams went to a zone defense, LSU was completely befuddled. That was the case from game 1 though 32, and it's been the case for Jones' entire tenure at LSU. And just think. Offense is what LSU did well!!!! The defense was a total disaster.
To just stick Simmons in the post like any other 6'10" player would have been to COMPLETELY waste his unique ability as a passer and ball handler. The problem is that LSU rarely did anything as a team to take full advantage of his skill set. At any given time, LSU had 5 guys on the court all doing their own thing. That wasn't because there were all "selfish players". It's because there was no actual plan.
Simmons is going to go to the pre-draft camps and make everyone again realize why he was looked at as the top NBA prospect coming into this season and why there were comparisons to Magic and James. Over the next 3 months NBA scouts, analyst and writers are going to explain in-depth just how poor a job the LSU staff did in playing with Simmons. It's been a 5 month tear down of this kid. When he gets around people who know and can actually teach the game at a high level, people will again realize just how unique a talent he really is.

I blame Simmons for coming to LSU and giving some people the idea that his 1 year here will make them relevant again.
