"Massive"
"On Saturday evening, some Transmission users noticed the strange activity on a discussion board—users concluded that the 2.90 version of Transmission was infected with the ransomware.

im waiting for the applebois to show up in this thread with 100 justifications and how this is just another smear campaign against apple and a non story.

The malware was signed with a valid certificate, which Apple has since revoked, and they've also updated their AV software. If anything, Apple fricked up by issuing the cert to a torrent company. If I were to consider running sketchy crap such as that, it would only be in a VM.
Contrast this with Mousejack. While Logitech has already issued firmware updates for their affected receivers, Microsoft is characteristically mum on the subject. Basically all Microsoft non-Bluetooth wireless mice (and keyboards) can be taken over and used as keyboards.

It's just a cost of doing business these days.
Ransomware is like the Alien of malware. "Perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility." Like Ash, I sort of admire its purity. It's real technology convergence, like a symphony of evil.
