Mrs. Banana's malti-shite used to always scratch her skins, but she started giving her Zyrtec and that helped. I think she switched from Zyrtec to something specifically for dogs and I haven't noticed her biting/scratching hardly at all.

AubieDVMalum specializes in animal derm. I am sure he will be by shortly.

My blue doberman has CDA, so he is almost hairless. Not much you can do about it

When I had my APBT/AmStaff, I would just use plain yogurt with their food. This would clear them up.

I have a 3 year old Boxer/GS mix that has pretty bad skin allergies, she breaks out in hives pretty frequently. Ive had really good luck with the medicated oatmeal baths and benadryl when she really needs it
Edit:i forgot that my vet also gave her a shot once that lasted about 6 months and it stopped everything in its tracks. She was hive free for months but i have zero memory of what it was

Yes I have a german shepherd in the south and he gets it bad from time to time.
Foods haven't really worked great, I'll drop a little bit of oil in his food, make sure he is worn out in the mornings so he doesn't scratch as much and bathe with this Sulfodene medicated shampoo stuff I found at Winn Dixie.
The Sulfodene stuff is the best, works better than a lot of the oatmeal shampoo stuff and all. Smells a bit like tar, but not bad or overpowering, just not fruity and shite. But that shampoo works wonders for his skin and for hot spots when they start coming around.

I highly recommend this stuff:
ResiCort Leave-On Conditioner
Minnie used to chew herself raw until we started applying the ResiCort. All clear now.

Posting so I can come back to this thread later. Our little fella is pretty scratchy and we have tried a number of things.

Are you sure it's not fleas?

Tried coconut oil and salmon oil. Maybe I will combine them.

mine chews himself raw
weve tried them all
ill give him 3 Bendaryls, does nothing to him- no relief, no drowsiness
we've been using Apoquel (sp?), last few months which helps once a day. 2 would be better a dat but its 60 bucks a bottle
weve tried all kinds of dry food.

I heard that was good but my vet said it's really hard to get right now based on popularity and limited production.

My vet recently gave me a bag of Hill's Derm Defense. This stuff is brand new and freaking amazing. It works just as well as giving him a daily dose of Benadryl and doesn't cause drowsiness.
Won't work for my dog. Why? My dog is highly allergic to carrots.
Sucks.

probably flea allergies, my dog has the same thing but her coat is fine, vet suggested an anti itch pill for awhile and a flea treatment.

Look into Canine Candida...yeast. It's a really tough problem to solve in dogs. Research it.
