So does a guy who has 4,2 ypc (11,000), 5000+ yds Kick returns, almost 4,900 yds recieving, and 134 total TD's in pro career get in?
He should, But those are not CJ's OR Swann's #'s...........
Looks like LT'S #'s............

Those are Herschel Walkers
I was just trying to make my point that you can not just go off stats alone and need to take everything into account and not compare people to people but use the era they played.

Wow... I didn't think he had that many receiving yards.... He was the BEST EVER in College.. And was a great pro that was involved in the greatest trade in NFL history....

OK.. But what does this have to do with this thread... I am not a huge stat guy when it comes to football compared to baseball... However IMO Swann doesn't belong there just like Joe Namath.... Bradshaw had awful stats and is in because he had the benefit of playing with so many other great players that stayed on the same team for 10 years.....

Has everything, because some on here are bashing Swann for his stats. Not taking into account the style of play, the shorter season etc.

Of all the guys to say this, he might be the worst.
I mean, it'd be like Namath claiming Tom Brady shouldn't be in

Lynn Swann is the least deserving Hall of Famer there is.

Walker had 8000 rushing yards and 84 total tds. Your numbers are way off on those two stats

Wrong, I added in his USFL stats not just NFL stats.
He had 3000 yds and 54 I think TD in 2 years with New Jersey.
I cheated him by 2000 yards as he played 3 years in New Jersey.

Different rules different game. Hard to say what Swann would have done with the rules in place. And you can not compare Johnson to Swann but compare him to his peers.
Cliff Branch
4x Pro Bowl
3 X All Pro
501- recs
8685-yds
67-tds
Harold Carmichael( 6-7 230 Southern U.. Megatron before ESPN /combine/ modern hype).
4 X Pro Bowl
590 - recs
8985 - yds
79- tds
Swann
3 X Pro Bowl
1x All Pro Bowl
336- recs
5642-yds
51 -tds
Cliff Branch (3 Super Bowl Rings) & Carmichael are somehow not in the HOF ,but Swann is.
Had it been Rice,Raymond Berry,Lance Alworth,Bilitenikoff,etc... who had made this comment I would have no issue.
But Swann is lucky to be in himself.

Yeah, I'm not so sure I don't agree with what he's saying, but for Swann to be the the one is laughable.

Carmichael and Branch deserve to be in.
Carmichael had a 100+ game receiving record that was broken by Largent.
I have never said that those two didnt.

It was completely different game when Swann played. As I said, you compare Johnson to his peers, not Swann.
Stop sounding like a broken record and explain why the game was 'completely' different than it is now. Other than shorter season... What say you?

If you do not understand the rule changes then I do not know what to tell you.

The original overrated NFL player calling someone much more deserving overrated.

Weak arse shite. You're saying the game was "completely" different yet you can't name any reasons. Weak shite.

Weak arse
Okay here we go
1. The Mel Blount rule came into effect
2. The defensive holding rule and liberal interpretation of Pass interference became more widespread
3. Legalized holding by offensive lineman came into being allowing QB more time to throw in late 70's early 80's
4. Defenders are now more scrutinized on hitting
5. The advent of 4 and 5 WR sets
6. The advent of the coaches communicator
7. The playing surfaces are much better
8. Johnson played at least 8 games a year in a dome
Do you want me to continue?

He is correct on that.
Before 1978 Receivers could be hit at any time anyplace on the field as long as the ball wasnt innthe air( no 5 yard halo or illegal contact).
Linebackers & safeties Head hunted & prayed receivers would come acroos the middle & take shots that would get them fined/ suspended today.
Also Linemen actually had to block( arms folded/ fists closed) & not extend their arms & grab defenders to protect QBs & increase Offense.
See the passing game begin to explode after 1978/ early 80's.

None of this limited Swann to the point where it allowed Johnson DOUBLE the output during his career. Maybe 1,000 yards difference yeah, but 6,000 more yards... Weak argument from you as expected.

OK... Give me the stats that are better than Swanns during that time that are NOT in the HOF and those stats that are not better than Swann's that SHOULD be in....... I can take into account games played and the style of play sure.. But Swann did NOT have dominante #'s in his era, Just Like Bradshaw he was the benefit of being on a great team that stayed together for so many years.....
