Pretty sure that's not possible

At one time the state record was caught in thosr lakes...

I've had good success in the cottages lake if you're looking for another fishing spot. Success with both catching bass and spotting babes

Those poor shad.

You are correct Wick. LDWF stocked the hell out of them with Floridas back in the eighties. The forage base in those lakes is astounding. My fish's girth almost equaled her length.

I thought that's what size it was, but I can't be sure since it was so long ago. I remember thinking it was a damn big largemouth when I first saw it

Size isn't the issue. La. has no smallmouth bass.

I know a guy that caught 10+ that weighed more than 10 lbs...he relocated them to a pond near prarieville. Most were caught in the little lake north of Dalrymple heading towards frat row.

I know their range, but this had smallmouth coloring and a small mouth. Maybe they stocked them back then, idk.

Not a native year round species and certainly not in the LSU lakes. I've heard of a few caught in an oxbow under the Huey Long Bridge in Harahan. Only when the river is very high and cold in the spring.
It is possible, just like a few snook have been caught out of Venice.

. 14lb caught held the state record for less than 1 yr before a fish from caney beat him. I caught a 4 lb bass back in the 90s and my son caught a 5 lb about ten yrs ago but we never caught more than 1 fish per trip and usually got skunked

quote:You have also heard of black panthers. If smallmouth exist in La. they would be in some north La. streams coming out of ar-kansas. But, they don't. Some ignorant citizens refer to spotted bass as smallmouth. That's as close to Harahan as a smally will ever get.

There are NO small mouth bass in LSU lake. But there are some fat largemouths that out grow their head and may look like a SM. Sorry

If you've got time, get a 50 pound bag of cattle cubes (range cubes) from a feed store ($10) and chum up a spot for a few days. Go at the same time of day if possible.
When you go to fish, throw out a can of corn in the same spot and use a few pieces of corn on the smallest hook you can find.

It's possible there is a small population in the kitsatchie. Atleast I always heard that

Lots of eater catfish (maybe not from those lakes) and carp should result.
Catfish using a cork, carp on the bottom.

That lake was on fire a few years after the initial dredge and restocking, but the water quality and level has gotten too poor to sustain any decent fish.
