Coyote hunting with greyhounds

I saw it on Paradise Louisiana last night and this looks fun as hell. The guy said they ride around until they see a coyote and get close enough for the dogs to see it. They have these boxes on the back of older Toyotas that the dogs' heads stick out of and then they have a string they pull for the side to flip down off the box and the dogs are off to the races.
They said the greyhounds hunt by sight so they have to make sure the dogs see them before turning them loose.
Look at what a pack of greyhounds do to a coyote at the 5:10 mark...

Sounds fun but I can count on one hand how many coyotes I've seen "ridding around" in 30 years

I think that is more of something that is done out west/ midwest where you can see for miles...

This is true. At our place in Kansas, they shoot .22 in the creek bottoms to scare the coyotes out to one side or the other and then the dogs see them. It's ON at that point.

when i hunted in Tx most of the trappers kept them for this reason. made good use of rescue dogs that would have been given the needle otherwise.
its cool as hell to see it in person

Someone commented to put GoPro on the dogs. That would be awesome.

Aaaaaand here comes Rusty!
(They used to have a foam rabbit "Rusty" that the greyhounds chased at the Palm Beach Kennel Club back when I was in high school. Some do-gooders complained and they changed it to a bone-shaped object)

It's awesome watching dogs do things they were bred to do. Watching hog hunting dogs do the same thing, it gives you chill bumps.

They do this by my house in a big coyote pen. Not near as cool as hunting free range ones like in the video though.
