Because they did so organically.

So tired of the crybaby private school grads constantly whining and crying about the split. Deal with it.

I guess thats about as stupid as...Im so tired of the Publics whining about not winning so they decided to split because they are pussys

I went to a public school and wanted to kick the private schools asses. We usually did. Glad our administrators weren't pussies then.

Why does there need to be parity in high school athletics?

It isn't about parity. It's about an even playing field. Maybe they can just add a rule where private schools can only use players that come from the public school district where they are located.

The bottom line, and this sounds a bit communist, is that each school should have a ratio of "athletes" proportional to the total enrollment of a school. If you have more than you should, the LHSAA, charged with keeping competition fair, deserves to know why

And if they have better athletes and results leading to dominance on their level, those schools should be moved up in class based on recent performances. It's the obvious system to adopt, but no one pushes for it. The principals in LA are giving state and D.C. legislators a run for their money in the incompetence department.

That's exactly the point I was making. That's the childish argument that idiots make. Just showing that it can be used both ways, thus it isn't a reasonable argument.

That's a terrible rule. So if I live in Denham Springs, my parents can't send me to a private school in Baton Rouge where I would be allowed to participate in sports?

I know if you don't live in the school district you have to sit your first year, but sit for eternity sounds harsh.

So you are telling me West Monroe has never gone to other parishes/states and brought in talent for athletics? You are truly naive if you believe that.

Owl, You and I normally agree on things, but you're off on this one, m'friend.
You are aware that Archbishop Rummel, Archbishop Shaw and St. Augustine are well below 1,000 students, yes? These schools are struggling badly for enrollment.

Your proposal also condemns DeLaSalle to oblivion, and Holy Cross is pretty close, because they don't want to be overcrowded in each grade level. Unless they have changed in the last 8 years, when we went through the open house, the indicated that they wanted to cap enrollment at, like, 150 per grade level.

This may benefit the rest of the state, but the publics in Metropolitan New Orleans, other than MAYBE Karr and Landry-Walker, will be in a world of hurt without the private schools/Catholic League attendances. Different story, even, on the Northshore and up the river. But Jefferson, Orleans? It's a losing proposition.

This was always my idea:
It makes less sense for football, but baseball and basketball could have your traditional state playoff brackets and state champions. One week later, there is a tournament for all the state champions to determine the true state champion.

Atom Knab, you are wise beyond your years.
I, for one, appreciate your perspective, and agree with you.

1,000 kids might be a bit harsh, but in this version of the LHSAA, there's no room for the small private schools... there's 21 in 2A, 27 in 1A, 4 in B, 13 in C... enough to form their own association

Sorry, I still can't abide that. My metro New Orleans h.s. was avg. 180 my four years there, before it closed. We were in the AA district for three years with Buras, Belle Chasse, Newman, John Curtis. We got our asses whipped. Would rather that, than have no athletics because of enrollment minimums.

The problem is also with the other major sports (Basketball, Baseball, and Softball)

So is Barbe getting kicked out too?

West Monroe? Acadiana? Scotlandville?

The data isn't on the side of the publics. Thankfully, someone brought it up again today at the meeting. Of course, the publics ignored it in 2012, they'll ignore it again.

Sure they could but you think they'll have a good time playing each other over and over, and over, and over, because they surely wouldn't be allowed to play the public schools anymore.

Exactly. Most voters want the private schools out of the LHSAA.
