My thoughts on the future of public education in Louisiana (and many areas of the country) can be summed up in my sig quote.

His statement makes sense when you factor in that all he's worried about is preserving the Chalmette/Holy Cross rivalry. Which is fine.

true... we all have self-interest if we care about this subject... Chalmette, NOLA area schools, class 5A, bigger schools in general is mine.

simply put, the Curtises, the Riverside basketballs, the LCAs now, are more trouble than they're worth if they're gonna cause this

but the Catholic League, whoever else, etc. are more likely to operate as real high schools if they have a certain number of kids. the right number is 1,000. Everyone needs to be happy, and the small privates don't really have people fighting for them.

Texas has their own private league, but they have Dallas Jesuit and Strake Jesuit playing in their 6A, simply because it makes the most sense. Those two are too big to play the other privates in their league.

Now IMO, even if privates under 1,000 were kicked out, we'd still need to neuter, if you will, the ones that are left

Another solution in the event of private schools leaving is to grandfather rivalries in that can be played if two schools have played in football the last 5 years or 10 of the last 20, something like that. If a rivalry is grandfathered, they can play in all sports in the regular seasons.

The LHSAA is one of the most incompetent organizations I've ever dealt with. Other states don't have the issues that Louisiana does in high school athletics.

So basically only 5A schools and a few 4As?

Right. Only those are functioning as "real schools." Certainly not Sacred Heart of VP, Opelousas Catholic, Hanson, Notre Dame, Loyola. You know, the athlete factories.

You know the BR publics would be on board for that so they could keep funding their programs with the gate money paid by the parents and alums of Catholic High.

You're prettly clueless. The only two private schools in all of Baton Rouge with over 1,000 kids is Catholic and St. Joe's.

and everyone under that will have their own league... they need to decide whether they're gonna do that on their own or if the public schools will do it for them

I liked this idea:

5 classes for football
32 teams in the 5 brackets
16 select on one side of each bracket
16 non-select on one side of each bracket
Seed each side by power points

Winner of top bracket plays winner of bottom bracket for State Championship

The 5As will walk if that happens. There have already been discussions about it. And they'll take all the money with them.

5A has enough big public school fanbases they could be fine either way, but we shouldn't want to lose the Rummels, Jesuits, Catholics, etc.

Once this happens there really is no reason for private schools to stay in the LHSAA. Will be very interesting to see how it plays out if this happens.

It will be interesting to see what some of the charters schools do. The current arrangement without the select teams really benefits them. Karr has been in the title game 4 of the last 5 years, the other year Warren Easton made it. Landry-Walker has won back to back titles in basketball. Some might follow the money & go with the private schools.

B.S. Every state has the same issues. Read you history of Tennessee, Indiana, Nevada, etc.

Texas and Mississippi keep them in a separate organization, and coincidently, have less issues.

that's why Texas has the best HS football... their UIL actually has power to deal with athletic factories

i think the LHSAA needs to adopt these guidelines

quote:

1. The private schools compete at the highest classification regardless of the number of students enrolled (Dallas Jesuit has fewer than 1100 students enrolled and Strake is even smaller); 2. They could only draw from their attendance zones / religious feeder schools; 3. Any incoming student from outside their attendance zone must sit out 1 calendar year before becoming eligible for varsity competition, thereby all but eliminate the recruitment of athletes.

Private schools need the public schools in the LHSAA. It all boils down to money.

Bonine is possibly gonna be fired. LHSAA is run by the principals in the state so he basically works for them. There's a bunch that aren't happy the way things have gone down lately....public and private.

I think something needs to be done but everything coming back together where everyone is on level ground is ludicrous. But it's also stupid as hell for an 0-10 team to make the playoffs.
