Uncharted Collection Question

I finally went and picked this up yesterday and fired it up.
Well, I have to be honest. I played the first game for probably two hours and was not impressed at all. Please tell me this is because it's a game that's old as frick and they were just limited with level design and puzzles and what not, because it was seriously that bad in my opinion. It was just run in a straight line and then push these buttons in this order that are already listed in my pocketbook.
Now the question....is this only an issue in the first game or if I'm already complaining will I not like the further installments?

All the Uncharted games and Tomb Raider games have that to a certain extent.
I just happen to love the Uncharted and Tomb Raider style of games. Not because the controls are fantastic, but because I love that sense of adventure.

Honestly, it's an overrated franchise IMO. It's essentially a very linear poor 3rd person shooter. They are graphically good, with pretty decent but cliche characters and people seem to love them for some reason. I just don't get it.

Story heavy adventure games like that pretty much have to be linear.

Uncharted > Tomb Raider

I like it. Linear 3rd person games are my favorite type of single player game.

I never thought the stories were that good. It just didn't do it for me.

In scale, sure. TR knew how to get to the point without dragging you through 12 miles of mud to get there.

I'm the opposite. Tomb raider let me explore.

Uncharted and Tomb Raider are equal to me in gameplay.
I enjoyed the story more in Uncharted.

Played one, played them all. The genre hasn't (and really can't) change since 1996. I play them as palette cleansers after an open world game. That's about all they're good for.

I thought Tomb Raider had superior gameplay

It's not going to get much better but level designs change, but will always be really linear.
I don't mind linear games but understand why some do.
I love the atmosphere and explosions.

To me the gameplay is not really comparable.
One is action heavy with guys constantly coming being superman. Tomb Raider I spent the whole game taking people out with the bow.
I enjoy both games.

I lean this way more. They go for different things but the games are similar enough that they will always be compared.
I don't hate linear either but at least when they got to the Last of Us I could explore the areas some and had some options with enemies. They have shown some of that for UC4 and hopefully can deliver on it.

I disagree. I think the new Tomb Raider games are better

Mass effect seemed to balance things out well enough.

I didn't mean they were the same. Just that I enjoyed both equally.

Agree with this. I played through them all a few years ago and thought they were good but not great. I just started playing through them again after getting through Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 and I'm enjoying them a lot more.

All I know is Laura Croft suffers about 15 things that would kill a normal person in the first 20 minutes of the game.
