Wondering where are some cool places to shoot.
I think Alexandria has a really cool downtown, but not too sure.
Any recommendations?
The older and rusty the better.

If you are on facebook, find Deborah Burst Author page and send a friend request. She has done a few photography books in recent years. She is a good photographer and travel writer/photographer and I'm sure she would be glad to give you some good locations.

Some of the small cajun towns would be the first places that come to mind
Natchitoches supposedly has some nice old houses, though I've never been there
If you're willing to go out of state try Natchez or Port Gibson, or the non-tourist gulf coast

I would recommend both Natchitoches and Natchez...old towns with a lot of character and some pretty cool areas...
Alexandria has some interesting stuff with the brick streets and whatnot....be careful where you go, though as some of it is in parts of town that are pretty bad...
you may also want to check out the Mississippi delta towns like greenwood, Clarksdale, Cleveland, etc...
if it is nature that you are looking for, take a drive up the natchez trace and stop at every historical marker....there is some very cool stuff including a "ghost town"....

Depends. What do you want to take pictures of?
St. Francisville, among others along the MSR.

The Plaquemine WaterFront Park in Plaquemine might be a spot for some good photos.
LINK
Then go a few miles south in White Castle & visit Nottaway.
