Absolutely.....

frickING TERRIBLE. Emily Blunt ruined this movie. Her character was absolutely the worst character in any movie since Jar Jar Binks. I almost turned it off if not for the outstanding performances of Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin.

Second complaint is that pacing was much too slow. I have no idea how it got the ratings/reviews that it did.

I see your taste in movies is almost as bad as your politics.

Prepare thy anus

See my review a week ago. I loved the tone, music, and theme of the movie. I'm a sucker for drug movies... However my main complaint was Emily blunts character and her token black friend were pointless to the movie. They literally served no purpose and were annoying as shite. Every scene she was in was the same. She's bitching and crying and every other phrase she said was "tell me what's going on".

She reminded me of homeland and Claire Dianes. Del toro and Brolin were the movie and stole it.

Yes I know Emily Blunt is hot as shite and normally I'm a huge fan, just didn't think this role was that great.

Agreed. Nothing remarkable for the exception of brolin/ Del toro.

Hell there should have been more action in it.

Biggest takeaway??? Stay the frick out of Cuidad Juarez.

I've lived in El Paso for the past 5 years and the entire Juarez thing is entirely fabricated. You will never see tracers and explosions and shite across the border. That doesn't happen.

Damn. I really enjoyed this movie. Yeah her character sucked. But, the rest of the movie was very entertaining.

I'm the same way. It's a really good movie, but I hated her and her friend

I thought it was the best movie I watched this past year. Stayed with me the longest. Her character was the audience surrogate, you have seen other movies and you know how the fbi or cia work or should work, these guys work differently and her character was there to ask those questions.

Her character was fine. She played a cop who is used to doing things by the book and getting results. Blunt did that really well.

No it wasn't. Even if it was, to say a movie is terrible because of slow pacing is stupid. Many many great movies, especially classics, have a slow pace. So two great points, Mr. Ebert.

It was a great movie and you suck. You must have been watching it on TV speakers.

This precisely.

Emily Blunt was OK but nothing great, and her formulaic friend was a real weak spot in the movie. Brolin was very good and del Toro simply made the movie one of the better movies of 2015. It still had flaws but slow pacing was not one of them. The drug trade is much more about subterfuge than it is idiotic action movie gun battles.

You completely missed the point of the movie. Wow.

Dumb stare. This was the entire point.

Holy shite dude, that's the whole fricking point.

How the hell did this seemingly obvious plot device apparently soar over so many peoples' heads? It's not like it was subtle.

the people thinking emily blunt's character was pointless seriously must have a kindergarten level ability to understand literature and story telling

This is true, but it isn't entirely fabricated. You will hear random gunfire and stray bullets regularly come over and strike buildings in El Paso. A woman was hit by one a few years ago.
