Twitter is incredible. It topples governments, gets university presidents ousted, and destroys tv networks.

Cable TV is a dying business model. It's gotten to be too expensive. They finally have...gasp...competitors and it's slowly killing the companies.

ESPN is basically TMZ of the sports world. I wouldn't be upset if they went away.

I like Cox Cable. It is easy. It is high quality. It has better guides and technology. It is all in one place and really not that much more expensive than when I researched cutting the cord. Any savings would be lost on time trying to switch from boxes to antennaes and also the lacking quality.

quote:Thats ridiculous, of course you would. Think about how often you'd get to watch LSU sports on television if that were to happen. Alot less. The daytime shows and TMZ-like news sucks, but they broadcast so much sports not sure who would fill the void and if the SEC/LSU would get as much airtime.

Enjoyed this bit
quote:
ESPN's idea for the future was simple: buy as many sports rights as you possibly can to help protect yourself from cable competitors like Fox Sports, CBS and NBC. Those rights -- there are only so many games -- would create a huge moat around the ESPN castle to protect the company from competitors. The problem was, that moat has ended up flooding the company instead.

This is like the 17th time Clay Travis has published this article. He changes a few words here and there and updates the costs per channel but it is the same old thing. Not that I disagree with it, but must be a slow news day in the world of sports.

I still say the best idea would be to just show live games with no commentators and just microphones in the stadiums. Make it like you are at the game.

ESPN will eventually only show reality shows, just like the rest of them.
Me? I only watch ESPN 8: The Ocho

I'm one of the few that think the a la cart model would actually be good for ESPN, only they don't know it yet.

I like how an article by Fox Sports includes this tid bit:
So, you're telling me I can get the same sports news as ESPN for 85% cheaper? Where do I sign up?!
quote:
1. ESPN $6.61
2. TNT $1.65
3. Disney Channel $1.34
4. NFL Network $1.31
5. Fox News $1.12
6. USA Network $1.00
7. FS1 $0.99
8. TBS $0.85
9. ESPN2 $0.83
10. Nickelodeon $0.73

Seriously?

It's not going to get any better. Sunday Night Baseball replaced two white men with a minority woman last week. No offense, but I hate women commentators for men's sports....and vice versa.

no, I wouldn't. Outside of a few games here and there, I rarely watch ESPN broadcasts.

Yeah, some people say that even if you cut the cable cord, they will make you take it in the shorts via apps and web subscriptions. I do think all of the conference realignment was short-sighted for quick TV dollars, and the Jim Delanys of the world are going to look back and think how stupid all of this was.
I read some cord cutting stuff and it seems like a lot of work, not to mention almost everybody is cheating some way with another's password. And unless you're saving $100+ a month, it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

they know the alternative model is there, but they are holding out as long as possible to milk the cable tv money for all they can

I cut the cord a long time ago. There aren't too many shows that I love to watch. The ones I do, I can stream.
Give me hbo, some comedy central shows (which can be watch elsewhere), and SEC football and I'm good. If I subscribed to all of the stuff I wanted, I'm still looking at less than $50 vs much higher with cable.
Of course, I have a douchebag ex roommate's cable login and password, so I'm watching everything for free.
