I say T. The guy got fired at Auburn and his defense got roasted that year.
Then, he gives up 645 RUSHING yards to a team running the wildcat.
He is not the answer.
Venables named as HCIW is the answer.

Chizik has a nice history as a dc before this past season. He would be a major upgrade from Steele.

First of all I dont think there was a lot of people clamoring for chizik. Second I know they sucked in the bowl game but until then didnt he significantly improve UNC's defense over the course of the regular season? From what I understood they were TAMU and chavis except it worked out. Just need to be decent on defense and the offense didnt tank unlike TAMU

False. When I found out LSU hired the D coordinator for the team that set the Orange Bowl record for most points allowed (70), I felt as if it was the very moment our program had simply given up. After all of the speculation into the big names like Shoop and Pendergast, and then to have to settle for a position coach with a really shitty resume...it made me wonder what was so terrible about coming to LSU where you're almost guaranteed a top ten recruiting class annually, together with some of the biggest coaching salaries in all of college football. Say it with me: LSU paid Kevin Steele one million dollars to coach the defense. I'm not a big Chizik fan, but he would not be--on paper, anyway--a worse hire than Steele. Not really even close.

No one does HCIW anymore. Why it persists on here, I'll never know. It is a massive handicap to recruiting to designate a HCIW. Has been for almost half a decade now.

Mediocre head coach but a great defensive coordinator. Last year UNC finished near last in the country in defense and this year with basically the same roster, they've improved about 50 spots. He was the difference in them going to the ACC championship game this season and Larry Fedora should probably thank him for saving his job.

False. Real false. We all know the team was on Cam's back, but Chizik still did enough to let his team win a MNC happen as a Head Coach. And he's generally been a solid DC.

He's only in his second year as DC, and his defense vastly improved this year. He would be a great hire, from a coaching and recruiting standpoint.

If we are going off one game, then we don't want Venables either.
Clemson and LSU both played Syracuse on the road this year.
LSU held Syracuse to 24 points, 127 rushing yards and 281 yards of total offense.
Venables let Syracuse score 27 points and rush for 242 yards
So clearly, based off that one game, Steele > Venables

You're insane if you think Gene is close to as bad as a Steele hire. Steele was about as bottom of the barrel as it gets. NOBODY wanted him as a DC after Clemson. Chiz had a very good history as DC before he became HC at AU. He also took a horrible UNC defense last year and made them respectable this year aside from the bowl game.
It's really not a comparison. He's miles better than a Steele hire.
